Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."

Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics

"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "

"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."

"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."

"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"
~ Alice O. Howell
Reader Feedback...  Apparently there is quite a controversy about the birth data given yesterday for WikiLeaks’s Julian Assange despite a heavily Plutonian chart that seemed absolutely spot on. (Chart shown at: mountainastrologer.com/

U.S. Astro-Journal Notes

As described in this month's astro-event #1, the U.S. Saturn Return brought the nation's most important business to the foreground: Congress grappled with the federal deficit, DADT, the START treaty, and the tax cut deal. Not mentioned were the extraordinary developments on the diplomatic front. Saturn's return in the diplomatic sign of Libra brought the controversial WikiLeaks cables and the death of veteran diplomat Richard Holbrooke.

On December 10, as Mercury turned retrograde opposite the U.S. Jupiter, The New York Times published a story about a secretive banking elite* that has become a favorite reference in the blogosphere. Among those commenting on the Times article was Janine Wedel, author of The Shadow Elite, who compares today's post-recession derivative traders to the reassembled Russian oligarchy after the collapse of communism.
Amelia Earhart Resurfaces

On July 2, 1937, Amelia Earhart (July 24, 1897; 11:30 pm; Atchison, KS) was lost at sea in her attempt to become the first woman to fly around the world. Last week scientists announced the discovery of three bone chips and other tantalizing evidence which suggest that Earhart and her co-pilot landed on a deserted South Pacific island where they survived for a few weeks.

Considering the transits and secondary progressions to her natal chart, Amelia Earhart's story is about to reach a dramatic turning point. Although she has reliable, stable Taurus Rising, Venus - the ruler of her chart - is in active, edgy Gemini along with her Moon and several other planets. This kept her moving, always chasing the next milestone.
Fine-tuning Julian Assange's Horoscope

If Julian Assange's reported birth time* of 2:05 pm is correct, then the WikiLeaks founder is currently experiencing Saturn transiting through his 12th house of secrets. As in Amelia Earhart's last flight, it's not the best time to seek personal achievement, but Assange's stated mission seems aimed more toward the larger social benefit than his own. And he remains ever-vigilant against hidden enemies.
Only in the U.S. Scorpio Rising chart is Jupiter in the 8th house of capitalism and investments. Mercury's station was empowered because it was conjoined by transiting Pluto, which is entering into an opposition to the U.S. Jupiter. Under this historic transit, Pluto will likely bring investigations, more secrecy, and a potential transformation of the banking elite's secret activities.

Looking forward, from December 22nd to the 29th, transiting Mars will be opposing the U.S. Sun and then squaring transiting Saturn, which is still near the U.S. natal Saturn. This configuration suggests that terrorism is possible during the holiday season. Obama's top counter-terrorism adviser said last Friday that he was confident that the appropriate resources were in place to deal with the risk. We hope so...
Unfortunately for the restless heroine, she undertook her adventure as transiting Saturn was in her 12th house, a time better suited for endings and conclusions, not new beginnings. Saturn here urges one to retreat from the world, and for those bent on superstardom, confusion and internal complexes can sabotage any external gain. Last week when scientists were unearthing her fate, transiting Pluto at 4º Capricorn was exactly squaring the position of Saturn (at 4º Aries) when she went down.

When she disappeared, her progressed Venus was conjunct her Sun, and she reached her greatest popularity while being eulogized. Now her progressed Venus is 90º further down the road, and entering into the square to her Sun, indicating a surge in her fame. Her progressed Moon will be conjunct her Sun in one month, perhaps indicating when the DNA evidence will be reported.

Assange surrendered himself to the London police on December 7 as he fought Sweden's attempt to extradite him on allegations of sex crimes. We can look at the transiting Sun as the timer of key dates: the Sun and Saturn were sextile then, with both harmoniously aspecting his North Node. With Saturn transiting through the 12th house of imprisonment, this is a solid signature for voluntary exile.

He was released on bail on December 16 as the transiting Sun was conjunct his progressed
Ascendant at 24º Sagittarius. Once again he was in the limelight and conducting many interviews, which is astrologically consistent with the transiting Sun lighting up the evolving projected self-image (the progressed Ascendant).

The next major alignment to Assange's chart takes place in early January. Transiting Jupiter and Uranus will be conjunct on January 4 at 27º02' Pisces. Assange's Pluto, the ruler of his Scorpio Ascendant, is located at 27º09' Virgo. Assange's natal Pluto is shaped by a close square to Venus in the 8th house, which helps to decipher what happens next. Watch for the next spectacular WikiLeaks revelation to unsettle the Bank of America in early January.
