Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."

Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics

"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "

"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."

"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."

"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"
~ Alice O. Howell
Reader Feedback...  "My brother was born the SAME DAY as Palin, and he has a Leo rising. He got married in Oct of 89, one year after Palin. So you may be very close with rectification. He is a Christian evangelical and a right winger  – I just don’t understand, he’s such a smart guy. "
" I think Christine O'Donnell is too nutty, even for Fox News. They certainly are not championing her.
I find that people with venus square mars, within the framework of marriage, well, fidelity is not one of their strong points. "

Eris at the Tea Party

The recently discovered outer planet Eris was a significant player during the original Boston Tea Party. On the evening of December 16, 1773, some 200 men costumed as Narrangansett Indians boarded an English ship in Boston Harbor and dumped its cargo of tea into the ocean to protest unfair taxation. At the time, a Mercury-Mars conjunction at 4º Capricorn was also conjunct Eris at 5º Capricorn.

Eris, the dwarf planet associated with strife and discord, is also a prominent player in the modern day Tea Party movement. Over the last two years as the Tea Party movement has grown, transiting Pluto has been activating Eris in the original 1773 Tea Party event chart. Eris was still in early Capricorn when the Declaration of Independence was signed nearly three years later.
In the U.S. national horoscope, Eris is at 8º08' Capricorn where it forms close aspects to the Ascendant (8º35' Scorpio), Ceres (8º11' Pisces), and Uranus (8º55' Gemini). Eris is therefore tightly interwoven into the American psyche, and currently a key player in the national conversation. The Tea Party became a political force this year as the U.S. progressed Midheaven formed a square to natal Eris.
Although the Tea Party is not an official political party, some 139 candidates (all Republicans) for the mid-term elections have affiliated themselves with its anti-Obama, libertarian values. During the next election cycle, transiting Uranus and Pluto will first square each other on June 24, 2012 at 8º23' Aries/Capricorn. This revolutionary combination lands right on the U.S. Eris, which is sure to generate a political tempest in the national teapot.
November's Top Five Astro-Events

1. The New Moon in Scorpio on the 6th marks a new start for many individuals, situations and processes, since several planets are also turning direct this month. Endings and new beginnings are status quo when the Scorpio archetype reigns. On the political scene, the balance of power shifts, which ripples through the business, social, environmental, and pop cultures.

2. The Sun aspects four outer planets between the 15th and 19th, marking a dynamic time for world leaders. Watch for interesting political proposals, economic solutions and other developments that help bridge national, religious and culture divides. Many individuals with personal planets in this degree area may feel inspired or find new opportunities. Be receptive to new ideas and feelings.

3. Ceres squares Saturn on the 20th, emphasizing responsibility and practical guidance in all care-taking roles, especially within the parent-child relationship. Since this aspect aligns with the U.S. Sun, expect to see national stories relating to this dynamic. This harsh aspect may indicate excessive strictness or stinginess, and difficult decisions regarding the welfare of children, the disabled, sick, elderly and poor.

4. Venus turns direct on the 18th, signaling a return to harmonious relationship patterns for many couples. Women who have been gone for a while return, and attitudes improve. Since Venus here squares the U.S. Pluto, expect major developments on the diplomatic front, renewed interest in bipartisan politics, and a possible reversal in the stock markets.

5. The U.S. progressed Midheaven is sextile natal Uranus this month, becoming exact on the 27th. This connection is most favorable to high-tech corporations, which likely will lead the economic recovery. The progressed Midheaven's previous major aspect was a square to the U.S. Eris, which corresponded to the birth of the Tea Party movement. The current aspect enhances their position.
Brandy and Maksim Take Over

Last week, Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough had a personal clash that put them out of sync and cost them the lead. As was described here, his Saturn squaring her Mars can be a tough taskmaster, and she did feel she was being pushed too hard. Now R&B singer and actress Brandy has the lead, with professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy guiding her every move.
Brandy Norwood was born with her Aquarius Sun (February 11, 1979; McComb, MS; time unknown) aspecting nearly every planet in her chart, giving her an innate sense of her own importance and leadership qualities. Venus in Capricorn is trine Saturn, which steadies her ambition. However, Venus is also at the center of her Sun-Uranus square, which has brought her an erratic to non-existent love life.
Brandy's Sun conjoins Mars, a major blessing for an intensely physical dance contest. Another potential leader in this season is Audrina Patridge (May 9, 1985), but her Mars is not so prominently placed. Brandy's Mars is fortified by a trine to Pluto and given grace by the sextile to Neptune. Her Mars also squares Uranus, an energetic, danger-loving aspect that can lead to accidents as well as trying high-risk but exciting dance moves.

Maksim (January 17, 1980) has a goof-ball personality, but his Sun-Moon conjunction in Capricorn trine Saturn in Virgo reveals that he's a serious teacher with a keen eye for
details. Maksim's many earth planets are harmoniously connected to Brandy's Uranus, so that he has a calming, grounding influence over her nervous, high-strung energy. Next month during the DWTS finals, transiting Jupiter turns direct near Brandy's progressed Sun – indicating that she'll very likely finish at or near the top.
