Obama's Stars
A reporter from Fox News emailed me on the occasion of Obama's 49th birthday to ask "What is in the stars for Obama?" Along with the consumer-driven question about Leos, she asked about a dozen other specific issues. For me, it's too difficult to explain the leap from sun signs to analysis of planetary dynamics, but here's a look at three distinct developments.
The first has to do with the current outer planet T-square and how it's aligning with Obama's Juno. This feminine archetype in the second house of money has a direct connection to Obama's economic strategy. Last week, when transiting Uranus passed over his Juno, Christina Romer, the chairwoman of his council of economic advisors, resigned because she felt her larger government stimulus plan was being ignored.
Obama's second house will remain under intense pressure over the coming year, especially since his progressed Sun in the eighth house of deficits will oppose his Juno in April 2011. This indicates an ongoing economic challenge, especially concerning
the issue of competing plans among his advisers. However, in July 2011, Obama's progressed Sun will trine natal Jupiter, bringing him much success in the area of international relations – and possibly, an improved economy.
The most worrisome progression involves his Mars, which is entering into a square to natal Saturn next year, and will be exact in April 2012. This combination likely refers
to entrenched military problems that occupy much of his time, especially concerning nominal allies and the impossible meeting of deadlines and objectives. This Mars-Saturn dynamic promises covert or secret battles, behind-the-scenes bureaucratic and political fighting, and potential health problems.
Same Sex Marriage in the Age of Aquarius
On November 4, 2008, Proposition 8 was passed by California voters. With contributions "for" and "against" totaling some $83 million, the measure became the most expensive initiative in national history. Grace Kelly Lives On
Although Grace Kelly died in a 1982 car crash, 2010 has been a good year for the Oscar-winning actress and Princess of Monaco. Her classic image is everywhere: from the cover of Vanity Fair*, to Vogue's style homage, to the ongoing tribute at London's Victoria and Albert Museum. She's also the inspiration for the icy, elegant Betty Draper character on TV's Mad Men.
Grace Kelly was born with a Sun-Mars conjunction in passionate Scorpio (November 12, 1929; 5:31 am; Philadelphia, PA), a determined,
Kelly began her film career in 1951 with a small part in Fourteen Hours as her progressed Midheaven conjoined her tenth house Neptune. Over the next few years, as her progressed Sun and Mars were conjunct and trine her Midheaven, Kelly skyrocketed to fame and fortune. Astrologically, same-sex marriage has been a political football ever since Uranus entered Aquarius in 1996. On September 21, 1996, President Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act, which gave individual states (Uranus) the right to pass their own definition of marriage. When Neptune entered Aquarius in 1998, Hawaii and Alaska became the first states to pass constitutional amendments aimed at defending traditional marriage.
The issue awakened national interest when California passed Proposition 22 in November 2000, which likewise banned same-sex marriage. Still, as nebulous Neptune advanced through Aquarius, the sign of equal-rights, the debate would not go away. Proposition 22 was overturned on May 15, 2008 when Chiron in Aquarius was beginning to form a long-term conjunction with Neptune. Immediately after this legal ruling, proponents of traditional marriage began gathering signatures for Proposition 8.
In this sign, Neptune tends to dissolve or blur recognized traditions based on abstract ideals of equal rights. Similarly, Chiron in Aquarius represents those who have been wounded in some way and are seeking equal protection under the law. As these two travel together, they will continue to influence traditional concepts of marriage. However, Pluto in arch-conservative Capricorn indicates that same-sex marriage is not about to gain widespread approval any time soon.
