"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Reader Feedback I enjoyed reading about the origin of the Gemini Rising US chart. It makes sense what you say. I wish people would be more open minded, but astrologers and their ideas/theories sound very similar to people and their political parties and the way they defend and debate those ideals, never bending, very adamant about their beliefs.

on progressions
"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"
"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."
"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."
Demetra George
on asteroids
"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."
"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."
"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

on the cosmos
Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."
"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."
"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."
Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes
"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."
" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."
"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."

on prediction
"The progressed aspects show the 'plot' of a story and lay the foundation for the types of events that will be triggered by the transits."
"It is the progressions that set the stage for potential events, showing detailed conditions and circumstances for a particular time frame accoring to the aspects formed between progressed and natal planets or between two progressed planets."
"At times of major events, there are frequently two or more exact aspects from outer transiting planets to natal or progressed planets."

Arizona's Immigration Law
Last week the U.S. Justice Department joined several other civil rights groups in suing Arizona over its recently enacted immigration enforcement law. The law will go into effect on July 29 unless the courts issue an injunction. Arizona's law has stirred up an intense debate across the nation over the status of illegal immigrants and whether Arizona is beginning a racial profiling campaign.
Arizona's horoscope (February 14, 1912; 8:00 am*; Phoenix, AZ) features the Sun in broad-minded Aquarius and Venus at 19º Capricorn, which is – oddly enough – the same set-up found in Mexico's horoscope. Arizona's Venus is accompanied by the Moon in Capricorn and suggests a patriarchal society governed by the wealthy. Venus opposes Neptune, which has a tendency to undermine the social order.
Arizona's Sun trines Pluto in the fourth house of local domestic conditions. The Immigration Enforcement Law was signed on April 23 when transiting Saturn and Uranus opposed each other while squaring Arizona's Pluto. With that Pluto in dualistic Gemini, and transiting Saturn pulling one way while transiting Uranus pulls the other, we can see the intense mental anguish that this has caused.
Arizona officials decided to get tough as progressed Saturn was exactly squaring the Sun (the orb, 0º00', verifies this chart). The state obviously represents Saturn in this case, while the civil liberties groups are naturally symbolized by Uranus. Watch around July 23, as the last Saturn-Uranus opposition unfolds, for a dramatic court decision blocking the law. Transiting Mars joins this configuration, ensuring that there will be a lot of angry people around this time.
The Origin of the Gemini Rising U.S. Horoscope
The Gemini Rising chart's popularity* can probably be attributed to Evangeline Adams, who is often referred to as "America's most famous astrologer." Her radio show broadcast from New York City in the late 1920s and early 1930s reached millions of listeners. She made a number of accurate predictions using a chart set for 2:15 am on July 4, 1776, and so her followers and the followers of her followers latched onto this chart.
As Nicholas Campion explains in The Book of World Horoscopes, this Gemini Rising chart was created in 1861 by Luke Broughton, who was at the time, the U.S.'s most prominent astrologer. Without knowing the time the Declaration was signed, he placed Uranus on the Ascendant to depict the revolutionary nature of the event. Uranus was at 8º Gemini, and so this became the basis for the Gemini Rising cult.
In Foreseeing the Future, Karen Christino's biography of Evangeline Adams, we discover that Adams learned astrology from Luke Broughton. So her use of the Gemini Rising chart is not based on any timed event from 1776, but the symbolic chart with Uranus on the Ascendant. The fact that Uranus wasn't discovered until 1781 should underscore that Benjamin Franklin did not set his stopwatch for this moment.
The Scorpio Rising chart is set for 12 hours later (at 2:21 pm), and thus reverses the MC/IC axis 180º. Personally, I believe that the Gemini Rising chart's often accurate correlations to historical events is due to its being a mirror image of the Scorpio Rising chart. Campion estimates that half of American astrologers who profess a preference use some version of a Gemini Ascendant. Perhaps if they knew of this charts' origins, they might switch to one that has more historic support.
LeBron James' Neptune
Leaving behind some $30 million in salary, scorned fans and a bitter franchise owner, LeBron James announced last Thursday on national TV that he would join superstars Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh to play for the Miami Heat. Las Vegas odds-makers suddenly changed their bets, giving this Dream Team a 35% chance of winning next year's NBA championship.
LeBron James was born with his Sun in ambitious Capricorn (December 30, 1984; Akron, OH; time unknown) and his Moon in independent, impulsive Aries. This highly
* According to Marc Penfield's Horoscopes of the Western Hemisphere which notes that this time was reported in the Los Angeles Times.
* I recently had the opportunity to engage in a debate with a well-known contemporary astrologer about the "correct" U.S. horoscope. This individual advocated the popular Gemini Rising chart set for 2:15 am, and as most readers of this column know, I support the 2:21 pm Scorpio Rising chart. If enough readers request it, I will post an edited version of this interchange.
dynamic combination strives hard to be the best, to be Number One. James' Sun is conjunct Neptune, which can be seen as the symbol for his hopes and dreams, which in this case, is winning the elusive national championship.
James' Neptune was hit by the June 26 Lunar Eclipse, when billionaire franchise owners began their sales pitches about why he should join their team. With the transiting Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Aries squaring his Neptune, part of him was ready for a new start. Meanwhile, transiting Saturn is heading into a square to this Neptune from the other side, making him feel obligated to Cleveland fans, and since his decision, inviting a hail of criticism.
While the 2011 championship is in no way guaranteed, James' progressed
chart looks fabulous: his progressed Venus and Mars trining natal Saturn indicates that he's building a winning team. Also, he's becoming empowered by transiting Pluto over the next three years. Transiting Pluto will be favorably bridging his natal Mars-Pluto trine next year, and then will go on to conjoin his Sun. He made the right choice.
