"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Reader Feedback "Regardless of the fact that gas at BP stations is usually 2 to 3 cents a gallon cheaper then at other gas stations, more and more people here and throughout the other Gulf states are now boycotting BP gasoline. Gulf state residents are enraged at what this spill is costing us in our fishing and tourist industries. As this oil spreads it will also effect the fishing and tourist industries at the rest of the Gulf Coast countries."

Obama's Energy Plan
In his address to the nation last week, President Obama called the oil spill disaster the most vivid incentive yet to end "America's century-long addiction to fossil fuels". Although the speech received tepid reviews, polls show that many Americans want to end their dependency on foreign oil by developing a clean national energy plan for the sake of the economy, the environment, and national security.
Obama's horoscope shows that he is uniquely positioned to tackle the oil addiction issue. Not only is his Sun's primary aspect to Neptune (the natural ruler of oil), but also this Neptune is located at 8º Scorpio, which corresponds precisely to the national horoscope's Scorpio Ascendant. Now that his Sun has progressed to 29º Virgo, it has fallen under the pressures of the crisis-oriented Saturn-Uranus opposition.
Transiting Saturn was within ½º of conjoining Obama's progressed Sun
when the oil rig exploded on April 20. One month later, when transiting Uranus opposed Obama's progressed Sun, estimates of how much oil was leaking took a quantum leap upward, elevating a minor inconvenience into a full-blown catastrophe. And now, as transiting Saturn is heading
back to the conjunction, Obama is using the bully pulpit to show he is in control.
Over the next month, as transiting Saturn nears Obama's progressed Sun, expect renewed efforts to pass a national energy plan. The problem is that transiting Uranus will oppose his progressed Sun two more times (August 2010 and March 2011), showing stiff opposition from Senators bought and paid for by Big Oil. However, if he sticks with it, Obama's progressed Sun trine Jupiter in July 2011 shows the potential for huge success.

Mexico's Drug War
Last week, the escalating violence in Mexico prompted President Felipe Calderon to issue a 5,000-word manifesto explaining his war on drugs. He directly blamed the United States, which consumes massive quantities of marijuana, cocaine and amphetamines that enrich Mexican narco-traffickers to the tune of $25 billion/year. "It is as if our neighbor were the biggest drug addict in the world."
Mexico's horoscope (January 31, 1917; 4:42 pm; Querataro, Mexico) features a triple conjunction of the
Sun, Mars and Uranus in Aquarius. This combination reflects the violent civil war in the early 20th century that gave birth to its modern democracy. The natal Mars-Uranus connection also shows the potential for spontaneous violence as part of the national landscape, especially when the Capricorn planets and Saturn lose control.
With Saturn rising, government control is expected and maintained. The challenge to this Saturn is that it conjoins Neptune, which has the tendency to undermine order through bribery, scandal, and the insidious influence of the drug cartels. Calderon initiated the war on these cartels when he assumed office on December 1, 2006 as transiting Saturn and Neptune opposed each other while aligned with Mexico's Mars-Uranus.
The deeper intractable problem – as seen from Mexico's horoscope – is Pluto in the 12th house. Here we have the symbol for the powerful underworld gangs that are destroying Mexico's social fabric. Pluto is being energized by hard aspects from transiting Saturn and Pluto. Now, transiting Jupiter and Uranus are also squaring Mexico's Pluto. These troublesome alignments continue through the end of Calderon's term in 2012.

Miley Cyrus Can't Be Tamed
Teen star Miley Cyrus was all over celebrity newscasts last week as she was promoting her new album Can't Be Tamed. Her sexy outfits and risqué dance moves gave fans the idea that she was growing up, and perhaps following the downward spiral of Britney Spears. "Just to be clear," she said, "drugs are for idiots and I'm never going to be that person."
Miley Cyrus was born a fun-loving Sagittarius (November 23, 1992; Franklin, TN; time unknown). Her Sun trine Mars in late Cancer gives her an abundance of physical energy and a healthy dose of self-confidence. Even though Mars in
Cancer is said to be poorly placed in traditional astrology, in Miley's case, Mars gains strength and will power by the trine to Pluto, and a clear voice by the trine to Mercury.
Miley's Sun at 1º Sagittarius is currently under the beneficial rays of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Aries. The Jupiter-Uranus component of this summer's Grand Cross is the part that is expansive, innovative, and exciting; it's the part of all of us that wants a new start. Jupiter-Uranus promotes freedom, high spirits, and a bright future – all of which Miley Cyrus currently exemplifies.
Transiting Jupiter and Uranus will continue to enhance Miley's natal planets in late Scorpio and early Sagittarius over the coming year. She's already mentioned that her agenda includes two film projects,
another album, and a tour, plus she has an interest in directing. A red flag can be found in transiting Neptune's square to her Mercury. This connection pushes for rest and downtime, but also offers myriad opportunities for recreational drug use.
