"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Reader Feedback re: Market Meltdown, one more feature of last Thursday's sudden "glitch" in the market trading was transiting Mars conjunct Uranus in the NYSE chart which you provided in the May Dell Horoscope article. If I interpret this correctly, Mars (haste) conjunct Uranus (electronic trading) led to the fat finger fiasco.

Elena Kagan's Pallas
Want to know if you have a chance to be successful in the American political theater? Aside from natural talent, a major factor is having strong connections between your horoscope and the U.S. Scorpio Rising horoscope*. In this way, you personify archetypes that help shape the national destiny. Obama's Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan (April 28, 1960; New York, NY; time unknown) is a great example.
Kagan undoubtedly rose to national prominence quickly because of her innate brilliance, plus the many tight links between her chart and the U.S. chart – not the least of which is her Sun-Neptune opposition perfectly aligned with the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. She also has Uranus at 16º Leo (conjunct the U.S. Midheaven), which was activated by transiting Mars last Monday when her nomination was announced.
Among the many other close connections is her Pallas, the asteroid associated with creative intelligence and justice. Her Pallas is located at 28º Capricorn, less than one degree from the U.S. Pluto, the nation's ruling planet. Transiting Saturn was trine her Pallas when she was nominated, and will continue to be in this favorable position over the next few months during the Senate confirmation hearings.
* For example, the U.S. has had more Scorpio and Leo presidents than any other signs because Scorpio and Leo occupy the key angles in the U.S. horoscope. Those who advocate a Gemini or Sagittarius Ascendant for the U.S. will find a dearth of presidents under these Sun signs. See Presidents for details
This Saturn transit, plus favorable support from transiting Jupiter and Uranus to her Pallas, suggests that she will become the Supreme Court's third female justice. However, her progressed chart shows trouble ahead: progressed Mars is squaring her Pallas, indicating conflict, controversy, and hardball politics. Watch around the June 26 Lunar Eclipse for a break one way or the other, as this astro-event aligns with her Jupiter.
David Cameron, England's New PM
Conservative leader David Cameron became Britain's new prime minister on May 11 shortly after Queen Elizabeth invited him to form a government. Cameron was able to cobble together a partnership with the smaller Liberal Democrat party to form Britain's first coalition government since 1945. Cameron was born on October 9, 1966 in London and his reported birth time of 6:00 am gives him 1º Libra Rising.
However, this time is evidently a rounded number*, and a late Virgo Ascendant seems more in tune with current events. A suggested 5:47 am birth time gives him 29º Virgo Rising. Gordon Brown (his political opponent) abruptly resigned as transiting Uranus at 29º Pisces was right on his Descendant. Cameron was married on June 1, 1996 when his progressed Midheaven was conjunct Juno, and this tidbit helps confirm 5:47 am birth time.
Cameron's top priority is to right Britain's sagging economy, a task he's genetically prepared to tackle. He comes from a long line of bankers and economists, which can be seen in the placement of Mercury. With Virgo Rising and Gemini at the Midheaven, his ruling planet is Mercury, which is found in the second house of money and in Scorpio, the sign associated with leveraged assets, i.e., capitalism.
* Astrologer Dharmaruci discusses Cameron's birth time of 6:00 am ("from memory") in his blog, saying it's probably a few minutes earlier. See astrotabletalk
Ceres in Cancer is near his Midheaven and trines Mercury, reflecting his family's reigning disposition toward financial affairs. Transiting Pluto is in a long-term opposition to his Ceres, and the Lunar Eclipse on June 26 is also aligned with his Ceres. One has to wonder if he can hold his coalition together under these influences. Consider also that his progressed Mars-Uranus conjunction over the next year portends unexpected crises and break-ups.
Justin Bieber, Ridiculously Successful
Our global village's most popular teen star didn't arrive via the traditional route of American Idol or the Disney factory. Justin Bieber's talent was discovered on YouTube, where his videos attracted millions of viewers before he signed his first recording contract in October 2008. Since then, he's performed in concerts around the world where he regularly sets off squealfests among hysterical tweens.
Justin Bieber was born with a Sun-Saturn conjunction in Pisces (March 1, 1994; Stratford, Canada; time unknown), giving him a strong sense of responsibility at an early age. The lack of confidence often accompanying this placement is overcome by his Sun's trine to Jupiter, which has also brought great opportunities and reliable benefactors. The Pisces Sun is enhanced by a Jupiter-Saturn trine, which balances optimism and patience.
Justin was born during the epochal Uranus-Neptune conjunction in Capricorn, which in his case is channeled through his artistic sense by the sextile to Venus. These natal placements are similar to film star Dakota Fanning's, since she was born only one week earlier. The cultural transformations promised by
that Uranus-Neptune conjunction are already appearing in these young stars' performances.
Justin's Mars at 25º Aquarius has helped make him popular in the U.S. since it's exactly conjunct the U.S. Moon. Presidents Jimmy Carter and George Bush (the elder) also had natal Mars at 25º Aquarius, and Reagan's progressed Mars was at 25º Aquarius when he was elected in 1980. It's a sure-fire connection with popular sentiment. In Justin's case, his Mars squares Pluto, leading to riots and stampedes during his concerts.
