"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Reader Feedback  "I did some more research on the 1979 Gulf oil spill, and discovered that the actual date of the spill was June 3rd, 1979. An article in USA Today specifically mentions the event location and time: "...about 60 miles northwest of Ciudad del Carmen on Mexico's Gulf coast....At about 3 a.m. "

Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."

Celeste Teal
on prediction

"The progressed aspects show the 'plot' of a story and lay the foundation for the types of events that will be triggered by the transits."

"It is the progressions that set the stage for potential events, showing detailed conditions and circumstances for a particular time frame accoring to the aspects formed between progressed and natal planets or between two progressed planets."

"At times of major events, there are frequently two or more exact aspects from outer transiting planets to natal or progressed planets."

Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics

"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "

"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."

"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."

Israel's Venus

One week ago, a pre-dawn Israeli raid on a Turkish ship bound for Gaza left nine Turkish activists dead and created an international crisis.
Benjamin Netanyahu canceled his meeting with Barack Obama and returned home to confront the hostile reaction from around the world, saying that Israel's blockade on Gaza is necessary to defend itself against Hamas militants.

Israel's horoscope (May 14, 1948; 4:37 pm; Tel Aviv) reflects the current political turmoil and warns of more trouble ahead. The timing of the commando raid can be seen in transiting Jupiter's placement in the last degree of Pisces opposing Israel's progressed Mars, located in the last degree of Virgo. This connection was exact (to-the-minute) when the raid began on May 31. Also, transiting Neptune opposite Israel's natal Mars describes the military challenges at sea.

As described in December 2008*, transiting Pluto has been in a long-term square to Israel's progressed Midheaven and will continue to create complex international problems for the next six months. The Free Gaza Movement already has four more humanitarian aid vessels ready to challenge Israel's blockade. The June 26 Lunar Eclipse on Israel's Venus promises intense diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis.

A bright spot can be seen ahead: Israel's progressed Venus is about to turn direct. Since November 4, 1967, Israel's progressed Venus has been in retrograde motion. Following the 1967 Six Day War, Israel has controlled Jerusalem and other pre-1967 territories. On December 25, 2010, Israel's progressed Venus turns direct while very near natal Uranus. This combination suggests a tremendous diplomatic breakthrough regarding Israel's annexed and militarily controlled territory.
Al and Tipper Gore
to Divorce

A NewsScope reader wants to know if Juno is involved in the stunning separation of Al and Tipper Gore, which was announced last week. Yes,
Juno is a major factor: in Al's horoscope (March 31, 1948; 12:53 pm; Washington, D.C.), transiting Chiron is conjunct natal Juno. A bit more difficult to see is that over the last year his progressed Juno has been squaring his progressed Uranus and opposed by transiting Saturn.

Traditional indicators and another asteroid are also clearly relevant to their "mutually agreed" decision. Transiting Pluto has been passing back and forth across Al's Capricorn Moon, and this corresponds to personal emotional turmoil

Tipper Gore (August 19, 1948; 2:40 am; Washington, D.C.) was born with a Sun-Saturn conjunction in the third house of mental attitude. Saturn rules her seventh house of partners, so that much of her mental health is invested in her marriage. Over the last two years, transiting Pluto has been squaring her progressed Juno, fundamentally undermining their togetherness. The separation arrives as her progressed Ascendant is conjunct her Saturn.
In February 2007, many politicos were wondering if Al Gore would run for the presidency again, challenging Hillary Clinton. At the time (see NewsScope Feb. 7, 2007), I wrote that he wouldn't because his progressed Vesta had arrived on his Ascendant. The prominence of this asteroid suggested that Al had found his special calling, which was to explain global warming. The problem here is that Vesta is totally focused on the mission, and leaves the primary relationship to flounder.
and problems with the women in his life. The most significant timer is his progressed Midheaven (describing his evolving status) conjunct natal Uranus, the ruler of his seventh house of partners.
Q'orianka Kilcher, New Age Activist

Last Tuesday, a protestor was arrested for chaining herself to the White House fence after a gooey black substance (resembling oil) was poured over her. Officials identified her as actress Q'orianka Kilcher, best know for playing the American Indian Pocahontas in the 2005 film The New World. She was protesting Big Oil's destruction of Peruvian ecosystems and her father's Quechua homeland.
Q'orianka Kilcher was born with her Sun in cause-oriented Aquarius (February 11, 1990; SchopfHeim, Germany; time unknown), where it's supported by a trine to Ceres in vocal Gemini. Ceres here reflects her interest in the environmental movement as well as her alliance with her activist mother. The placements in air signs describe a facility with global media, while her Sun's square to Pluto shows a fascination with power and its use.

Ms. Kilcher was born with six planets in Capricorn, which might suggest a respect for authority. However, two of these are a Mars-Uranus conjunction, giving her a warrior's need to fight for freedom, justice and equality. Looking back 84 years, when Uranus was previously in Capricorn, we find that actresses Katharine Hepburn and
Barbara Stanwyck, plus Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, were all born with this same combination, and each demonstrated a similar independent spirit.

In terms of her place in the American landscape, her Sun and North Node are conjunct the U.S. fourth house cusp, indicating a significant role in shaping domestic politics. Over the next few years, transiting Pluto will conjoin her natal Mars-Uranus, while transiting Uranus squares it from impulsive Aries. We will surely be hearing much more from Q'orianka through her revolutionary documentaries, films and speaking engagements.
