"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Reader Feedback  regarding Al Gore's masseuse, "The fact that Ms Hagerty's testimony also painted Mr Gore as more then horny and aggressive, but also whiny, childish, and in some points almost infantile-- qualities that I have a hard time identifing as Mr Gore's, also gets added to the mix of elements here and colors my acceptance of her testimony as the pure unadulterated facts of the matter. ."

Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."

Celeste Teal
on prediction

"The progressed aspects show the 'plot' of a story and lay the foundation for the types of events that will be triggered by the transits."

"It is the progressions that set the stage for potential events, showing detailed conditions and circumstances for a particular time frame accoring to the aspects formed between progressed and natal planets or between two progressed planets."

"At times of major events, there are frequently two or more exact aspects from outer transiting planets to natal or progressed planets."

Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics

"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "

"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."

"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."

Stimulus versus Austerity
Last Friday's dismal unemployment numbers fell below expectations, suggesting that the slow economic recovery is losing momentum. Housing sales plummeted in June and the stock markets hit new lows for 2010. Clearly divided by party lines, some politicians have called for another government stimulus program, while others believe that the way out of the recession is by cutting spending and lowering the overall deficit.

Astrologically, the opposing views of government's role can be seen in the outer planets' alignments. Pluto in Capricorn symbolizes the pivotal role government can play. Jupiter and Uranus in Aries recognize the need for bold action, but they are opposed by Saturn, the cautious, frugal budget-hawk. These four planets are moving into a tighter T-square over the coming month, pointing to an escalating debate over the economy.

Comparing this T-square to the U.S. horoscope, all these planets are aligning with the U.S. Venus. Recall that two years ago, the economy began to freefall due to the collapse of the housing market. This unfolded under the first passage of Pluto opposite the U.S. Venus. Now that Pluto is returning to this degree area, the economy is again faltering – although Pluto's transformative nature is leading to an historic financial reform bill.
One of the major indicators for the U.S. economy's weak employment numbers is progressed Venus conjunct Chiron in the U.S. sixth house of jobs. As it happens, this aspect becomes exact on November 3, the day after the election. One might anticipate that after the election, the employment picture will begin to improve once voters have decided whether stimulus or austerity is the best course of action.
The July 11 Solar Eclipse

Next week's Solar Eclipse is an extraordinary astro-event because it's accompanied by the ever-tightening T-square involving Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter, and Uranus. Individuals with their Sun or other important natal planet near 19º Cancer or Capricorn will be most affected by this eclipse, and have probably been feeling the influence for several months already. Since the eclipse is conjunct Juno, partnerships are especially highlighted.

In the geopolitical realm, Standard Oil's horoscope (January 10, 1870; 12 pm; New York, NY) is the most obvious recipient of the Solar Eclipse's power. This horoscope, as the foundation for Big Oil*, features the Sun at 20º Capricorn opposite Uranus at 19º Cancer. The Gulf oil spill happened within three months of this eclipse, and is therefore under its auspices. Big Oil is being eclipsed.
Last week, Tesla Motors made a successful IPO to raise cash for its electric car, while GM prepares to launch its Chevy Volt. In a similar vein, President Obama posted $2 billion to support two major solar energy corporations. While Saturn types are attempting to stifle such innovation, labeling these changes as impractical or insufficient, the pioneering Jupiter-Uranus influence impels the exploration of alternatives and the creation of new technologies.
Transiting Mars is in Virgo now, and during the last two weeks of July and the first few days of August, it will activate the outer planet T-square. The action is about to begin. Global hotspots will be getting more explosive, though after Saturn enters diplomatic Libra on July 20, we can also expect renewed efforts at peacemaking. In our rapidly evolving global village, these trans-personal planetary alignments force us out of our little worlds as we co-create our collective experiences.

Chelsea Clinton's Wedding

The social event of the year may very well be Chelsea Clinton's wedding to long time boyfriend, hedge fund investor Marc Mezvinsky, scheduled for July 31. Details of the wedding have begun to leak out, notably the location at the elegant Astor Courts in Rhinebeck, New York, an aristocratic gem designed for oligarch John Jacob Astor IV in 1902.

Chelsea Clinton was born with her Sun in sensitive Pisces (February 27, 1980; 11:24 pm; Little Rock, AR), where it forms a trine to Juno, the marriage asteroid. She becomes herself when involved in a committed relationship or marriage. However, with her Mercury also in Pisces and under stress from an opposition to Saturn and square to Neptune, she's often of two minds about many things, including marriage.
The clincher arrives now as her progressed Venus in her 7th house of partners is trine her natal Saturn (orb 0º02'). This solid connection between her love planet and the architect of time is cementing her relationship. Also, the Solar Eclipse on July 11 takes place in the family sign of Cancer and is conjunct both transiting Juno and Chelsea's natal Juno, marking a dynastic wedding celebration.

Their first child may arrive in three years. Marc Mezvinsky (December 15, 1977; Philadelphia, PA; time unknown), with his progressed Ceres currently conjunct his Sun, is probably ready now. Chelsea's progressed Ceres will be sextile her Sun in three years, which suggests a more reliable timetable. However, she's likely torn by this prospect
since her strong tenth house placements may entice her into politics or some other more public role.
