Reader Feedback As for me, a mostly African American, this homeland of mine has always felt strongly like a Scorpio rising overlay to me, given that most of my ancestors came to this country in the hulls of ships and lived the Slave life for hundreds of years with no freedoms. Thereafter, they endured a 100 years of lynching followed by a period of Jim Crow and segregation.

on progressions
"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"
"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."
"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."
Demetra George
on asteroids
"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."
"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."
"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."
Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos
Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."
"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."
"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."
Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes
"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."
" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."
"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
Celeste Teal
on prediction
"The progressed aspects show the 'plot' of a story and lay the foundation for the types of events that will be triggered by the transits."
"It is the progressions that set the stage for potential events, showing detailed conditions and circumstances for a particular time frame accoring to the aspects formed between progressed and natal planets or between two progressed planets."
"At times of major events, there are frequently two or more exact aspects from outer transiting planets to natal or progressed planets."
Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics
"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "
"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."
"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."

North Korea Threatens "Sacred War"
Following last week's visit to South Korea by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, U.S. forces are conducting massive joint military drills this week with South Korea. North Korea sees this show of force as preparation for an invasion and has threatened to pre-empt the perceived attack with a nuclear strike. The astrological red flags are everywhere....
North Korea's horoscope (September 10, 1948; 8:50 pm; Pyongyang, NK) features an angular (conjunct the Descendant), determined Mars in Scorpio trine Uranus, giving the military a prominent role in the nation's evolution. For those strategists who are concerned about North Korea's impulsive, violent reaction to the war games, they couldn't have picked a more provocative moment due to the activation of the NK Uranus.
The current outer planet T-square (Saturn opposing Jupiter and Uranus, and squaring Pluto) is being energized now as Mars enters Libra. All these planets align with North Korea's Uranus, located at 0º Cancer. Most significantly, transiting Uranus is passing through North Korea's 12th house, where fear can drive rogue elements into an impulsive, even suicidal, nuclear strike.
Looking at the U.S. horoscope, the heavy outer planet influence is weighing on the U.S. Venus. As the ruler of the 7th and 12th houses, Venus is associated with surprise attacks and war. This is true only in the Scorpio Rising U.S. horoscope, and a review of 20th century history shows that whenever Venus is activated by transiting Pluto (or progressed Venus aligns with natal Pluto, the nation's ruling planet), the U.S. has been at war. We are entering such a phase this month.
About North Korea's changing leadership, see NewsScope May 24, 2010:
Considering that the ACG line for the U.S. Venus runs right through North Korea, the U.S. military adventures in Afghanistan may not be the only serious engagement this month.
August's Top Five Astro-Events
1. Mars opposes Jupiter and squares Pluto on the 3rd, completing the warrior planet's spectacular march through the most intense outer planet alignment since the mid-1960s. The battle lines are being drawn under this influence as global economic, political, and environmental stakes are debated at the highest levels. Personal goals take a back seat to historic geopolitical shifts.
2. The U.S. progressed Moon conjoins natal Neptune on the 8th, likely bringing a culmination of the BP oil spill disaster. After this point, we know what the damage is and what the risk is going forward. Also, since Neptune squares Mars in the U.S. chart, military tension along the hostile interfaces will likely increase, ushering in a wave of uncertainty.
3. Venus conjoins Mars on the 20th, but these two love planets are a major influence from the 8th to 30th as they travel together through Libra. New romances may start during this phase, or those in committed partnerships may rekindle their intimacy. Stale relationships may fall victim to romantic triangles or disintegrate as new possibilities open up.
4. Jupiter and Saturn oppose each other on the 16th while this polarity is ½º from squaring Pluto. This unusually tight T-square formation most likely represents severe economic problems, since they're all aligned with the U.S. Venus. Anyone with a prominent natal planet in the early degrees of Cardinal signs will likely be going through a major life transition.
5. Saturn squares Pluto on the 21st, the third and final passage of this highly conservative, nationalistic vibe. The GOP and Tea Party enthusiasts will probably be in their best position heading into the November election. However, Mercury turning retrograde on the 20th may lead to some mis-statements or outrageous claims that backfire on the campaign trail.
Christopher Nolan's Inception
The surrealist thriller Inception showed its worth over the weekend by beating Angelina Jolie's Salt at the box office. Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Inception works on many levels, "like a matryoshka, a Russian nested doll, in its layers of perceptions and dreams".
What is dream and what is reality? Christopher Nolan's

horoscope (July 30, 1970, London, UK; time unknown) has a great signature for making action films with his Sun-Mars conjunction in Leo. But as the director of such intriguing and mysterious films as Memento, The Dark Knight, and The Prestige, we look at the challenging Saturn-Neptune opposition for his ever-present themes of reality meeting up with mystery and deception.
In Nolan's chart, this Saturn-Neptune opposition is mediated by Mercury, which is in late Leo and most closely squares Neptune in Scorpio. Mercury at 28º Leo gains importance by being conjunct the royal star Regulus. As the processor of information, Mercury is practical and disciplined by its square to Saturn in Taurus, but subject to psychic invasions (or inspirations) from alternate realities by its square from Neptune in Scorpio.
Coincidentally, a mind-bending hypercube crop circle appeared on July 16, the same day as Inception's debut. At the time, transiting Neptune at 28º Aquarius hit Nolan's Mercury-Neptune square. Some observers have noted that the FBI may have arranged to have Russia's embedded spy ring picked up when Salt made its debut (lending credibility to an improbable plot). But one has to wonder how the circle-makers are in league with Nolan to promote his film. Neptune leads us into the nested dream worlds depicted in Inception, of which our collective three-dimensional reality may be only one facet.
