WikiLeaks' Document Dump
On July 25 (at 5:00 pm EDT), WikiLeaks released 91,000 documents covering the war in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2010. Top-level Pentagon officials criticized the action, saying it would put American lives at risk, as well as those Afghans who cooperated with the U.S. Proponents compared the incident to the 1971 publication of the Pentagon Papers, which helped end the Vietnam War.
The document dump took place during the Full Moon in Aquarius and within minutes of the Pentagon's Solar Return. The Pentagon (July 26, 1947; 12:15 pm; Washington, D.C.) was established when the Sun in Leo was squaring Chiron in Scorpio, a natal dynamic that reflects the imperial urge for dominance (assisted by a powerful Saturn-Pluto conjunction n Leo) and the obsessive need for secrecy and control (Chiron in Scorpio).
The most elevated planet in the Pentagon's chart is Mercury, the planet of information. Mercury rules the 12th house of secrets and is supported by a huge budget (trine Jupiter in the 2nd house). Mercury was hit by the July 11 Solar Eclipse, foreshadowing the WikiLeaks document dump. Transiting Pluto is currently in the Pentagon's third house (where it squares the Pentagon's progressed Sun at 3º Libra), showing an over-riding need to manage intelligence information.
The strongest parallel between the WikiLeaks documents and the Pentagon Papers (first published on June 13, 1971) is a Jupiter-Saturn opposition, which describes the moral issues at play. The present incident was initiated by those who favor the democratic ideal of freedom of
information (Jupiter and Uranus in Aries). Saturn in Libra must weigh the need for transparency against the need for government secrecy (Pluto in Capricorn). This unsettling issue is shaping our emerging global network of information as we collectively enter the Age of Aquarius.
Charles Rangel's Mars in Taurus
Unless Congressman Charles Rangel admits wrongdoing, the full trial against him will begin in September at the height of election season. Last Friday, some of his Democratic peers urged him to resign for the sake of party unity, while Republicans are planning to make Rangel the face of corrupt Washington under Democratic rule. So far, Rangel has admitted to no more than sloppy paperwork.
Charles Rangel (June 11, 1930; Harlem, NY; time unknown) was born with a lucky Sun-Jupiter conjunction in expressive Gemini and his Moon in blunt but friendly Sagittarius. This strong Jupiter-Sagittarius influence has made the 20-term Congressman well liked by members on both sides of the aisle. However, like many who achieve success through their outgoing, sociable, Jupiter-inspired demeanor, he fell victim to the arrogance of power.
Rangel's Mars in Taurus is key to his personal history and his current troubles. Mars is well supported by trines to Saturn and Neptune, and represents his path to success by being conjunct the karmic North Node. This Mars provided the courage to lead 40 of his comrades out of an enemy trap during the Korean War, and using the money-savvy Taurus qualities, to lead the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.
Rangel's progressed Mars is now at 1º Cancer, which is currently under the cross-hairs of the outer planet T-square, the most powerful outer planet alignment since the 1960s. Since the still popular American Idol has been slipping in ratings recently, the show's producers have been looking for some appealing new faces to replace the three departing judges. Ellen DeGeneres bowed out because she didn't like hurting singers' feelings, and now rumor has it that Jennifer Lopez is in negotiations to become an American Idol judge. Does she have the toughness?
Jennifer Lopez was born with the Sun in regal Leo (July 24, 1969; Bronx, NY; time unknown), where it's given plenty of energy and enthusiasm by a close trine to Mars in adventurous Sagittarius. The Sun
The major challenging aspect to her Sun is the square from Saturn, located at 8º Taurus.
