Bernadette Brady
on progressions
"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"
"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."
"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."
Demetra George
on asteroids
"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."
"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."
"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."
Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos
Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."
"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."
"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."
Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes
"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."
" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."
"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
Celeste Teal
on prediction
"The progressed aspects show the 'plot' of a story and lay the foundation for the types of events that will be triggered by the transits."
"It is the progressions that set the stage for potential events, showing detailed conditions and circumstances for a particular time frame accoring to the aspects formed between progressed and natal planets or between two progressed planets."
"At times of major events, there are frequently two or more exact aspects from outer transiting planets to natal or progressed planets."
Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics
"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "
"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."
"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."

"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Pakistan's Flood
This year, the hottest year of the hottest decade in history, has seen an extraordinary number of weather-related cataclysms. A basic tenet of global warming is that a warmer atmosphere can hold – and discharge – more water. On July 28, the heaviest monsoons on record dropped 12 inches in one 36-hour interval, causing widespread flooding in Pakistan while wiping out entire villages.
Linda McMahon's Pallas
Last Tuesday, Connecticut's Republican voters picked professional wrestling executive Linda McMahon as their choice to replace the retiring Senator Chris Dodd. In the tradition of Jesse Ventura and Al Franken, McMahon is capitalizing on her entertainment persona to gain recognition, though she's had to defend herself against the more raunchy plot lines of the WWE by calling it "an action adventure soap opera."
Mark Hurd and Jodie Fisher
The nation's business pages have been all abuzz about Mark Hurd's so-called "resignation" as Hewlitt-Packard's CEO. The reason for his departure has been linked to a sexual harassment suit against Hurd by Jodie Fisher, even though no harassment violations were discovered by an internal investigation. Hurd and Fisher settled their differences, while Hurd received a phenomenal $40 million severance package.
Mark Hurd was born during the New Moon in Capricorn (January 1, 1957; Palo Alto, CA; time unknown), giving him the basic corporate mentality we associate with this ambitious, conservative sign. With
his Mars strongly placed in Aries and closely squaring his Sun, the impression of an alpha male executive becomes clearer. This combination indicates that feelings weren't spared in his ruthless cost-cutting measures.
Linda McMahon (October 4, 1948; New Bern, NC; time unknown) is an archetypal Pallas woman. Her Libra Sun conjoins Neptune, with both closely trine Pallas in Gemini. Pallas, known as the goddess of creative intelligence, has a fondness for the spoken word when located in Gemini, and never shies away from a debate. The Libra influence adds diplomacy and charm, ensuring that this candidate will attract national media attention.
Pallas types make strong women who yearn to make their mark as equals in a man's world. As a child, McMahon readily admits that she grew up as a "jock", enjoying baseball and basketball. About World Wrestling Entertainment, which she founded with her
husband, she's says "I'm very comfortable in a guy environment. ... It's still a testosterone business, and I like it."
Pallas is also known as the political asteroid and its activation can ignite an interest in civic or public responsibility. McMahon's progressed Sun opposed her natal Pallas when she announced her candidacy on September 16, 2009. Transiting Saturn was trine her progressed Pallas when she won last week's GOP primary. On election day in November, transiting Saturn will be conjunct her Sun-Neptune and trine her Pallas – making her the odds-on favorite to win.
Jodie Fisher (July 17, 1960; Dallas, TX; time unknown) was born with her Cancer Sun conjunct Venus in Leo, giving her a highly erotic, social, and charming aura. Her Moon in sensual Taurus propelled by a conjunction with Mars points to an aggressively friendly personality. Hurd paid Fisher up to $5000 as a VIP event organizer and greeter. The cost of their private dinners was hidden in the books, a trick that eventually got Hurd fired.
Comparing these two charts, her Venus is conjunct his Uranus and his Venus is trine her Uranus. This mutual intra-aspect creates an exciting, love-at-first-sight connection. The problem was that her Saturn in Capricorn sits right on his Sun, and exactly squares his Mars. She holds the authority in this high-powered game of sexual intrigue. Whenever you see a tight Mars-Saturn interchange like this, run for the hills before you get hurt.
The flooding began on July 28 when transiting Mars joined transiting Saturn right on Pakistan's Ascendant at 29º Virgo. The mounting scale of the disaster became evident as transiting Saturn and Uranus opposed each other while squaring Pakistan's Mars. U.S. Marines sent
in relief supplies last Thursday when transiting Uranus was only 0º06' from squaring Pakistan's Mars.
Simultaneously, historic flooding in China, raging wildfires in Russia and huge icebergs breaking off of Greenland's ice sheet indicate that the effects of global warming are accelerating. Since the U.S. failed to ratify the 1997 Kyoto Treaty, world leaders have learned they must wait for the U.S. to take the lead in reducing greenhouse emissions. Yet with Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus pushing and pulling on Pluto in Capricorn – all while aligned with the U.S. Venus and Jupiter – the economy remains Washington's highest priority.
Pakistan's national horoscope (August 14, 1947; 9:33 am; Karachi, Pakistan) tells us why this country should currently be the most severely impacted by global warming. Its angles, the four points that ground the national psyche in our space-time matrix, are closely aligned with this summer's rare outer planet alignment. Also, Mars at 0º Cancer is conjunct the Midheaven, perhaps reflecting the location of the flooding in militarily contested regions.
