Bernadette Brady
on progressions
"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"
"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."
"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."
Demetra George
on asteroids
"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."
"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."
"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."
Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos
Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."
"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."
"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."
Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes
"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."
" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."
"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics
"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "
"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."
"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."

"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"
Reader Feedback... "I know you are a stickler for accuracy and correctness, which is a GOOD thing. You continual use of the "one true" chart for the U.S. is a case in point. ;-) "
"I can't get over your output! U rock!"
"I'm glad to see you keeping up with the new stuff and even more that you apply it currently. You are an indefatigable supporter of real astrology and I applaud you for it."

The Revolutionary Uranus-Pluto Square
Last week, the ninth anniversary of 9/11 approached with the specter of a crazy pastor's promise to publicly burn the Koran, drawing the attention of military, political and religious heads from around the world. What the pastor had failed to consider was how his actions would insult 1.5 billion Muslims, and probably foment violent reactions from more radical factions.
When taken as a reflection of our times, this incident is clearly shaped by the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in faith-oriented Pisces (see September'a astro-event #2). The religious (Jupiter), crisis-oriented (Uranus) vibes are intensifying this week, as relations between the Islamic and Christian cultures clash over whether to build a mosque at NYC's Ground Zero. The
Jupiter-Uranus combination has become stressful due to the ongoing square to Pluto in Capricorn.
One way astrologers are looking at Pluto's transformative action in Capricorn is as the testing of our collective patriarchal structures. These tests become severe when Pluto is challenged by hard aspects from other outer planets. As we enter the Age of Aquarius, we realize that women's roles and values - especially that everything is connected - are equally valid. What one pastor does in Florida can trigger mass protests in Pakistan.
The most serious disruptions to our patriarchal systems will likely begin to unfold when Uranus returns to Aries and squares Pluto. The Uranus-Pluto square occurs seven times between June 2012 and March 2015, but these two are already close enough now that we recognize the problem areas. Reforming the old order to reflect the emerging feminine consciousness is only likely after great shocks to the systems. Fasten your seatbelts....
Haumea in American Politics
Among planets recently discovered beyond Pluto is Haumea, named after the Hawaiian Goddess of Creation. Astronomers refer to Haumea as a dwarf planet because of her relatively small size, but astrologers are discovering her immense influence over American politics. Although Haumea has some fascinating associations with ecology, evolution and fertility, she's most recognizable as being connected with all things Hawaiian.
Haumea was first sighted in 2004 using a large telescope on Hawaii, which set the stage for naming the planet after a Hawaiian goddess. Due to some classification
Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution
British chef Jamie Oliver* is making headway into the American scene with his fiery brand of healthy cooking. Last week ABC announced that they were picking up his show, Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, for a second season. This time, the Emmy-winning reality show will be filmed in Los Angeles with the task of getting obese people to eat healthy, tasty meals that they cook for themselves.
Jamie Oliver was born with his Sun in information-oriented Gemini (May 27, 1975; Clavering, England; time unknown), a placement highly energized and physically charged up by the close sextile to Mars in pioneering, courageous Aries. Oliver's Sun trines Pluto, indicating an intensely driven mission to change the world. The Sun's opposition to Neptune fills his head with elusive dreams, but also gives him a good cinematic presence.

problems, astronomers didn't get around to the official announcement until September 17, 2008, only six weeks before Obama was elected. Scottish astrologer Alison Chester-Lambert* notes: "Synchronous with the arrival of a Hawaiian president was the arrival of a Hawaiian planet."
Is it just a coincidence? After Senator Byrd's death, Hawaiian Senator Daniel Inouye (September 7, 1924; 11:00 am; Honolulu, HI), became the longest-serving senator in the U.S., making him third in the presidential line of succession. His Haumea is conjunct Venus at 29º Cancer where it trines his Scorpio Ascendant, so that he gracefully projects all the regenerative power of this mysterious goddess.
Haumea was at 14º30' Libra when the IAU announced her name, which is closely conjunct the U.S. Saturn (at 14º48' Libra). If Saturn represents America's consensus reality, then the discovery of Haumea suggests a growing awareness of the Hawaiian form of spirit, ecology, and a multi-ethnic social pool. Hawaii's horoscope (August 21, 1959; 10:10 am; Honolulu, HI) has the Sun conjunct Haumea at 28º Leo, showing how this great goddess has infused her spirit into Hawaii's very identity.
Here's an on-line ephemeris for Haumea: haumea
Oliver's Mars opposes Pluto and squares his ambitious Capricorn Moon, a powerful dynamic that depicts a relentless drive to achieve his goals. The tension surrounding his Mars has brought him no end of controversies, as much from students and parents who insist on eating toxic food, as from rival chefs and the CEO of the Sainsbury supermarket chain in the U.K.
Oliver initially achieved success by advertising for Sainsbury, being their public face, for which he was paid millions. Undoubtedly, his Sun-Neptune opposition allowed him to compromise his ideals for some recognition and cash. But then his irrepressible Mars got ahead of this strategy when he slammed the food sold in supermarkets as processed junk. "For any chef, supermarkets are like a factory. I buy from specialist growers, organic suppliers and farmers."
