Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."

Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics

"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "

"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."

"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."

"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Kim Jong-un, the Morning Star King

North Korea watchers believe that last week's bizarre attack was largely due to internal developments. Kim Jong-un (Kim Jong-il's youngest son) is being groomed to take over and is learning to work with the military regime. North Korea recently changed Kim Jong-un's official birthday from January 8, 1983 to January 8, 1982, but the birth year is most likely 1984.*

Kim Jong-un's mother fondly called him the Morning Star King, and of the possible birth years, only in 1984 was Venus the morning star. Perhaps she saw that Venus was exceptionally placed by being conjunct Antares, the bright red star associated with military leadership. A speculative birth time of 7:00 am (Pyongyang) places the serious Capricorn Sun just below the horizon and Mercury on his protocol-oriented Capricorn Ascendant.
Kim Jong'un's spectacular rise began on January 15, 2009 when South Korea reported that his father named him as his successor. At the time, transiting Pluto and progressed Jupiter were right on his Mercury-Ascendant, bringing him out of the shadows for this important new role. He was also experiencing a progressed New Moon squaring natal Saturn in the tenth house, kicking off a 28-year cycle emphasizing his inherited authority.

A Mars-Pluto conjunction in the tenth house further accentuates his collaboration with the military. On September 27, 2010, when Kim Jong-un was magically made into a four-star general, transiting Uranus was quincunx (150º) his Mars. Last week's events took place as transiting Venus turned direct on Kim Jong-un's Mars. A good bet is that he will assume power in 2012, perhaps on his birthday when transiting Saturn is conjunct his elevated Mars.
December's Top Five Astro-Events

1. The U.S. Saturn Return on December 3rd is an important phase in American politics when the most severe structural problems are addressed. Now that the election season is over, legislators and business leaders can look to the long-term picture and see what is working and what needs fixing, with major emphasis on the federal deficit.

2. Mercury turning retrograde on the 10th becomes a nuisance during the holiday season. Gifts purchased after the 10th may not be appropriate, may not work properly, or may have poor directions or missing parts. Keep all sales slips. Travel plans go awry, unexpected delays cause frustration. Breathe deeply and go with the flow, which may not be where you expect.

3. A triple conjunction involving Mercury, Mars and Pluto on the 13th likely signifies aggressive action on many fronts, especially in business, politics and the military. These planets in Capricorn indicate intense discussions about corporate and government budgets involving drastic or extreme measures. Expect a wave of directed hostility or violence from religious fanatics.

4. The Sun squares Jupiter and Uranus on the 16th and 18th, an unusually separative, liberating and exciting few days since the U.S. progressed Moon is also opposite Uranus on the 18th. This combination is in effect for most of December and may bring some spectacular weather events, political crises, and for some, spiritual insights or unforeseen good fortune.

5. The Lunar Eclipse on December 21st takes place as Mercury retrograde squares Uranus, likely leading to many traffic delays and snafus for holiday travelers. Throughout the next week, Mars opposes the U.S. Sun, perhaps leading to a congressional showdown over the Bush tax cuts. This same set-up may indicate domestic terrorist threats and intense security measures.

Mark Twain's Autobiography

Mark Twain requested that his autobiography not be published until 100 years after his death. Now that 100 years have passed, the 500,000-word volume has become a best-seller. Released only two weeks ago, the publisher was unprepared for the demand and had to return to the printer six times for a total run of 275,000 copies. Suddenly, Mark Twain is hot again.

Mark Twain was born with an energetic Sun-Mars conjunction in free-spirited Sagittarius (November 30, 1835; 4:45 am; Florida, Missouri). This restless combination sent him around the world writing travelogues, which brought him his initial fame and fortune. Since his Sun-Mars resides in the second house of money and opposes Chiron, Twain made and lost fortunes in his lifetime, and having enough was a constant source of worry.
Many of Mark Twain's planets are very closely aligned with planets in the U.S. horoscope, which is why his stories became the nation's stories. The degree of his Scorpio Ascendant is nearly the same as the U.S.'s Scorpio Ascendant, and his Jupiter, the ruler of his Sagittarius planets, is conjunct the U.S. Sun. His Uranus in Aquarius is conjunct the U.S. Moon, so that his inventive, iconoclastic, free spirit (Uranus) expresses the people's true sentiments (U.S. Moon).

Toward the end of his life, after his wife and daughter died, Twain went into a deep depression, a common problem with Saturn and Neptune afflicting the third house of mental attitude. His attitude about religion also changed: Jupiter in his 9th house of religion squares Pluto, a signature that describes a fundamental restructuring of his faith. He wanted to be known for his wit, but 100 years after his death, his scathing, untempered criticism of organized religion has emerged.
