on progressions
"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"
"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."
"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."
Demetra George
on asteroids
"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."
"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."
"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."
Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos
Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."
"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."
"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."
Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes
"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."
" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."
"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics
"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "
"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."
"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Julian Assange's Radical Transparency
The geopolitical tectonic plates shifted last week when WikiLeaks released 251,287 secret U.S. diplomatic cables*. Among the startling revelations, Israel realized that its Arab neighbors were equally worried about a nuclear Iran, U.S. officials were instructed to spy on United Nations leaders, and the Chinese government is directing a global computer hacking effort. Meanwhile, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has become a wanted man.
According to Interpol, Julian Assange was born on July 3, 1971 (Townsville, Australia; time unknown), which places his Cancer Sun in a close square to rebellious Uranus. This combination naturally seeks independence and thrives on being unpredictable, unrestrained, and in favor of radical change. His unconventional side is strengthened by his Mars in Aquarius, which becomes a warrior for abstract causes and theories.
Assange's Mars forms a harmonious trine to Venus, making him a popular folk hero among those who want to see more transparency in their governments and in the media. By secondary progression, Mars has retrograded back to 16º Aquarius - the same degree as the U.S. fourth house cusp. This connection explains why he's attacked U.S. secrecy, as he asserts the Aquarian principle of freedom of speech.
Transiting Pluto in Capricorn is heading into a challenging octile to his natal Mars, a tense alignment suggesting a struggle for survival over the next two years while this aspect is in effect. Simultaneously, transiting Uranus in Aries will octile his Mars from Aries, which will help him promote his radical transparency agenda. Assange's warrior planet is therefore at the center of the upcoming Uranus-Pluto square, pitting government control and secrecy against independence and freedom of expression.
* Although the site has been hounded by governments and hackers, as of this writing, here's where you can currently find the WikiLeaks documents: cablegate.html
Hamid Karzai, Tenacious and Unreliable
Among the WikiLeaks cables that U.S. officials wish had not been released were frank assessments of Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan. Karzai was depicted by U.S. Ambassador Eikenberry as often being agitated, unprepared for high-level meetings, and full of anti-U.S. conspiracy theories. Other cables decried his inability to get rid of corruption, stem the opium trade, or run an effective government.
Olivia Wilde's Venus
After a three-year marketing campaign, Disney's $170 million production of Tron: Legacy will open on December 17. The sequel to the 1982 tech marvel Tron stars veteran actor Jeff Bridges and Olivia Wilde, best known for her role as "Thirteen" in the TV drama House and for being ranked #1 on Maxim magazine's Hot 100. Ms. Wilde plays the cyber warrior Quorra.
Hamid Karzai was born with his stately Capricorn Sun trine Pluto (December 24, 1957; Kabul, Afghanistan; time unknown), a powerful combination that, in itself, upholds his leadership position. Mars in adventurous Sagittarius squaring his Pluto indicates he's no stranger to violence and is always intensely aware of potential enemies. Though he originally welcomed U.S. troops, lately he's blamed America in order to deflect any criticism against his own administration.
Karzai became a national leader on December 5, 2001 shortly after the U.S. removed the Taliban leadership. At the time, his progressed Mars was conjunct his Sun, giving him the will power and strength of character that tribal leaders and the U.S. government respected. However, the WikiLeaks
cables show that by 2008, many diplomats and generals had become frustrated over Karzai's new tune.
Astrologically, this corresponds to transiting Pluto conjunct Karzai's Sun. He was experiencing some fundamental transformation of perspective. His natal Moon-Uranus opposition undoubtedly felt oppressed by American demands and expectations. Karzai's progressed Mars is now at 8º Capricorn. Over the next two years it will be conjoined by transiting Pluto and squared by transiting Uranus, making him increasingly tenacious and unreliable.
Olivia Wilde's Pisces Sun trines Mars in the warrior sign of Scorpio (March 10, 1984; New York, NY; time unknown), making her a strong advocate for her beliefs, and bestowing a healthy self-confidence that has advanced her film career. Mars also squares Venus in cool Aquarius, adding to her animal magnetism and sex appeal.
However, the square between these love planets suggests sexual aggression mixed with emotional dissatisfaction, a natal tension that is often played out in her dramatic on-camera relationships. Venus is under further pressure from a square to Chiron in Taurus, an aspect shared by Paris Hilton. The Venus-Chiron celebrity strives to overcome any perceivable imperfections in a carefully crafted goddess-like image.
For a beautiful young actress, Venus generally tells the tale of her progress. Olivia married an Italian prince on June 7, 2003 when her progressed Venus was conjunct her Sun. In June 2009, when she was named Maxim's #1, a transiting triple conjunction (Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune) landed right on her Venus. Currently, her progressed Venus and progressed Mars are perfectly trine, indicating fabulous success as Quorra.
