"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Jon Huntsman - A fan of Neptune Cafe, here.  I found this article with a link to Jon Huntsman's birth certificate, showing his birth time at 11:58 am... Your chart is not far off. I am very involved with politics and love astrology, so I enjoy your analysis.

re: NewsScope  - Excellent column this week (July 11, 2011). All 3 articles are well written and well chosen.

re: NewsScope - thank you for your fantastic website and also for your Newscopes.

Q.  I wonder would you consider commenting on the precious metals, gold and silver, as well as in general about the commodity cycles with the economic cycles. In particular, what about the fiat currency future and the ever non stop debate of inflation or deflation cycles that we are having or going to have in the next few years.

re: NewsScope - Keep up the great work. Love your site!

Q. As far as I know you have never presented a horoscope for the U.S. FDA. Would you by any chance have such a chart? It is relevant now because the FDA is hell bent on destroying all our freedom to be healthy. They now have a proposed set of guidelines, which they introduced on July 1st, to try to ban as many nutritional supplements as they can.

re: economy - June was looking grim for the US ecomomy until last week when the Greek debt crisis was smoothed over and Wall Street took off on a tear. I'm thinking the optimism is premature since Saturn is still squaring the US Sun as well as the worldwide influence of Pluto square Uranus. I did notice Jupiter in Taurus is opposite the ascendant in the Scorpio rising US chart you favor.  Perhaps the optimistic feeling is short-lived since the Saturn, Pluto, and Uranus transits last much longer than the Jupiter effect.

more on the economy - Now, we are watching the slow demise of the capitalized world.  Yes, it will fall, the question before us is whether it will be a slow demise or a CRASH heard round the world.  That has yet to be determined.  But Greece will go into bankrupt sooner or later, I predict much sooner than most of us anticipate. My sincere suggestion is that you visit Bill Herbst's website and read the two articles he has posted there in PDF form this month as well as some of the older essays he has written on global events and the economy both past and present.

thx - Thanks for your wonderful column.  DSK post, and others, fascinating.

Q. - Tangential fun side questions:  Chelsey?  Pippa"!
Keep up your good work!

re: Federer - I just looked at Federer natal chart and couldn't believe that someone with this kind of fame and success is born with the Sun in house XII and doesn't even have one planet in house X!

A. Well, he is a Leo, and it's hard to keep a strong Leo out of the limelight. Notice that he has a formidable Jupitrer-Saturn in the 2nd house of money closely trine the MC. This helps build his career and promises financial security (wealth even) in the process.

Rick Perry’s Mercury

A NewsScope reader requests an astrological view of Rick Perry, the long-term governor of Texas. “As far as I’m concerned, if he gets in the race, he wins the GOP nomination.” To get any traction with a national audience, a candidate needs some very close connection to the U.S. Moon at 25º Aquarius. Only Perry’s Mercury fits the bill, which is at 24º or 25º Aquarius, depending on his actual birth time.
Mercury would be at 25º Aquarius and prominently placed if he was born at a speculative time of 6:30 pm (March 4, 1950; Paint Creek, TX). This gives him Virgo Rising, and makes Mercury the ruler of his chart. Saturn conjunct his Ascendant fits with his image of being tough and in control, and gives him the doggedness to rein as the longest-serving current U.S. governor.

Perry was first sworn in as Governor of Texas on December 21, 2000 when George Bush resigned to become the U.S. President. At the time, transiting Pluto was squaring his 7th house Sun, so that he became empowered through the action of a significant other person. Also, transiting Saturn was nearing his Midheaven while forming an exact square to natal Mercury.
Over the coming year, Perry’s progressed Sun will square natal Pluto and transiting Pluto will square his Mars, which could indicate a fierce national campaign. One major drawback is that his progressed Mercury recently turned retrograde. In classic astrology, this becomes a weakness, making him prone to a lot of soul-searching and second-guessing. As he says, he’s thinking about entering the race, and he may never get past that. He should let us know one way or the other soon after Mercury turns direct on August 25.
Columbia in the Age of Aquarius

Should the D.C. in Washington D.C. be changed to stand for District of Christ? A reader wants to know what’s happening astrologically from October 3 to November 22 when the religious group DC40 will be campaigning against Columbia, the patron goddess of the United States. In their view, getting rid of the nation’s “pagan trappings” is the only way to solve our country’s problems.*

Columbia has an actual astrological representative, which is the asteroid Columbia, discovered in 1892. In the U.S. horoscope, Columbia is located at 14º Virgo where it forms a harmonious sextile to the nation’s Sun in Cancer. Columbia is the poetic name for the Americas and based on the surname of explorer Christopher Columbus. Fashioned after Roman goddesses, she is the feminine personification of the United States.

By secondary progression, the U.S. Columbia is now at 14º Sagittarius, so that it’s forming a square to its natal position. The tension in this aspect is one way to see how the U.S. is at war with itself. On October 3, the transiting North Node enters into a conjunction with the nation’s progressed Columbia. This aspect becomes exact on November 22, and tells us that we do have a high-powered event here.

In the bigger picture, these kinds of aggressive religious movements reflect the dying gasps of the Age of Pisces and its fundamental role in our patriarchal institutions. In the emerging Age of Aquarius, men and women have equal roles in co-creating our collective reality. We’re in the transition phase now, and the Uranus-Pluto squares unfolding over the coming few years will be decisive in facilitating this process. We can expect more bizarre efforts to wage spiritual warfare at the same time that the Aquarian principles of evolution, friendship, and magic are on the rise.
Daniel Craig in Cowboys & Aliens

Although the sci-fi thriller Cowboys & Aliens is based on an absurd premise, A-list actors Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde bring some credibility to their archetypal Wild West roles. Craig gets the most screen time in this popcorn film, as he brings to his character the same underlying tension and menace that catapulted him to superstar status as James Bond in Casino Royale.
Daniel Craig was born with his Sun in sensitive, artistic Pisces (March 2, 1968; Chester, England; time unknown), with the closest aspect to the traditional planets being an opposition to Pluto. The inherent struggle with powerful enemies depicted by this edgy polarity makes for great cinematic story-telling. Craig’s challenging Sun-Pluto aspect takes us into the dark side of the soul in most every film he makes.

Craig overcomes the Pisces tendency toward depression and victimization via his Aries Moon and Mars-Saturn conjunction in Aries. These are highly combative placements, and operate most effectively with a mission to accomplish. In Cowboys & Aliens, Craig’s rugged, world-weary character arrives on the scene without knowing who he is, but wearing a mysterious, high-tech bracelet that eventually wins the battle against the invading aliens.
Craig’s Jupiter is placed in the last degree of Leo where it opposes Vesta in the first degree of Pisces. This important dynamic pairs his devotion to his craft (Vesta) with his dramatic exaggerations (Jupiter). C&A opens as the transiting Mercury-Neptune opposition activates Craig’s Vesta-Jupiter, underscoring the fantasy element of this tale's strange encounter. This English actor is bound to become an American favorite since his progressed Jupiter, now at 25º Leo, is exactly in line with the U.S. Moon. As he demonstrates in this film, he’s got the accent down.
