Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: Japan - Thanks for the Chart on Japan. I have been toying with Japan's dates for its: Old Constitution, New Constitution+when Japan was given back full sovereignity after WWII, but nothing felt quite right. It's so sad. I will continue to pray for the well being of the Japanese people, as many in the world are doing.

re: Wisconsin - “The question voters want to know is must financial reform be accompanied by union-busting, or is this a pure power play?”
           ---March 14, 2011 WolfScope

Voters can’t tell for sure.  I live in Kenosha, Wisconsin (i.e., not far from Ground Zero).  This is an immensely polarizing issue.  Some people – be they friends, spouses, co-workers or relatives -- can’t even bring it up with each other because the conversation devolves into a Plutonian meltdown in mere seconds.
Considering the State of Wisconsin’s astrological chart, which “influence” is the stronger. Scott Walker's or Wisconsin's?

response - That's a good question and a matter for long term research. I can tell you that in Wisconsin's chart (May 29, 1848; Madison, WI; noon), progressed Mars has been at 8º Scorpio and is now at 9º Scorpio - all in line with Walker's Sun and the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. This kind of cosmic convergence is an indicator of the important and intense national dynamics being played out in your state.... And a fabulous synchronicity supporting the 2:21 pm birth time for the U.S.

re: fractals -  The section on fractals was good. About 5 years ago I began to notice how patterns repeat themselves+mirror one another.

more fractals: The idea has been around at least since John Townsend first suggested it in the "Toward A Physical Basis For Astrology" chapter in the 1989 edition of Dynamic Astrology (Destiny, 1980). The physics of it is, of course, rather in dispute, though the recent article I sent you makes an attempt to explain it...

re: Mubarak ghost image - LOVE your take on the world every week—have recommended your column to all my clients.

ONE THING: Every week when I display your column, (since Feb 7 column) on the Left side of the page is Mubarak face peering down at me. This is the same portrait you had on your Feb 7 2011 column. Is anyone else noticing this or do I have some weird virus on my computer? Yes, it happens every week and anyday I pull up your NewsScope column it’s there.

resonse - I'm so sorry you are experiencing this lingering Mubarak image. It seems to be a platform problem with the webpage designer, an incompatibality between pcs and Apple computers. We have tech help working on this, and hope to clear up the problem soon.

The Republican Field, so far…

A NewsScope reader comments that the whole field of possible Republican contenders for the 2012 presidential election seems bizarre. “How about some assessment of the GOP field?” she writes. “I’ll be watching them close-up, since I live in NH.” With the first Republican debate scheduled for May 2, regional favorites are being forced to declare over the next month to get some national exposure.
A very simple astrological litmus test to separate the wannabes from the potential winners is to check for natal or progressed planets in aspect to the U.S. Moon at 25º Aquarius*. Orbs should be extremely tight, less than ½ degree. Sarah Palin’s Saturn at 25º Aquarius fits the bill, as does Newt Gingrich’s Sun at 25º Gemini. None of the current top-tier candidates has met this minimal requirement.

Gingrich’s 12th house Mars makes him better at attacking from the opposition party. As transiting Saturn opposes his Mars, he’s demonstrating how adept he is at waffling. Sarah Palin can afford to bide her time. Mike Huckabee’s and/or Mitt Romney’s Moons may be at 25º Scorpio, but without an accurate birth time, we can’t know. Donald Trump’s Mars at 26º Leo is a definite plus, but too far away from the U.S. Moon to be a real player.
A new arrival on the scene is Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (April 6, 1956; Waterloo, Iowa; time unknown) who may have her Moon at 25º Aquarius. Transiting Jupiter is nearing a conjunction with her Aries Sun, so she’s getting a lot of encouragement and media attention to jump in. With five to six planets in Aries over the next month, we can expect plenty of provocative barbs being tossed around to get attention. However, since Mercury is retrograde in Aries most of April, watch for some serious “misstatements” to narrow the field.
April’s Top Five Astro-events

1. Mars enters Aries on the 1st, and due to the several hard aspects Mars makes during this month, creates an overall atmosphere of intense conflict. In the personal and transpersonal realms, impulsive, reckless action may lead to mistakes, accidents, and ill-conceived tactics through the 19th. Action taken will be more successful after Mercury turns direct on the 23rd.

2. Neptune enters its own sign Pisces on the 4th, beginning an extended passage that lasts through January 2026. Geopolitically, Neptune here likely signifies the last-gasp reign of oil as the world’s dominant energy supply, as well as the final chapter of the world’s faith-based patriarchal religions that belong to the receding Age of Pisces. A Mars-Uranus conjunction in early April indicates military conflict in oil-producing regions, perhaps leading to a sharp spike in oil prices.
Liz Taylor’s Most Glamorous Moment

Elizabeth Taylor reached the pinnacle of her career in the 1960s, when she and partner Richard Burton appeared in eight films together. Their tempestuous love affair began in January 1962 on the set of Cleopatra, and lasted through the end of their second marriage in July 1976. In the interim, Richard bestowed many fabulous gifts on Liz, including the fabulous 69-carat Taylor-Burton Diamond.

Diamonds are ruled by Venus, and Elizabeth Taylor’s horoscope (February 27, 1932; 2:09 am*; London, UK) reflects a Venus as dazzling as the diamonds she loved. Venus is exactly conjunct Uranus in bold Aries, giving her an exciting, electrical aura. Venus is tremendously enhanced by a trine to Jupiter in ostentatious Leo, and complicated by an emotionally intense square to Pluto. Both Jupiter and Pluto are in her 8th house of other people’s money.

3. The Sun conjoins Jupiter on the 6th, an annual astro-event that generally raises spirits and provides enthusiasm for new endeavors and projects. However, this time, the Sun-Jupiter opposes Saturn, which gives rise to blustery intolerance and arrogant self-righteousness. Jupiter simultaneously enters the U.S. sixth house, which may bring some good news in employment trends.

4. Saturn makes its second square to the U.S. Sun on the 12th, signifying a month of challenges to American leadership. Republican contenders gearing up for the 2012 election season will be on the offensive, while military and diplomatic allies are being tested for their ability to follow through in Libya, Pakistan, and elsewhere. Watch for tests of character at the highest levels: in politics, business, and across the American cultural landscape.
5. Venus enters Aries on the 21st, following in Mars’ footsteps through the gauntlet of challenging aspects. Women in general will feel more aggressive, readily going after what they want in romance, business, and family relationships. The 29th and 30th are suitable for tough business negotiations, but disappointing in love affairs. The 21st through 30th is a good time for celebrities, artists, and musicians to promote their latest creations.
Richard Burton’s Leo Ascendant (November 10, 1925; 11:00 am; Pontryhydfen, Wales) is right on Liz’s Jupiter, and his Sun-Saturn conjunction in Scorpio trines her Pluto. In this way, he discovered that he enjoyed giving her expensive jewelry. Transiting Jupiter in the partnership sign of Libra was trine his Descendant (signifying Liz) on October 23, 1969 when he bought the most expensive diamond in the world for over $1 million.

Liz made the ultimate fashion statement on November 12, 1969 when she wore the Taylor-Burton Diamond for the first time at Grace Kelly’s 40th birthday party. Transiting Uranus (also in Libra) was conjunct her Midheaven on this date, and perfectly quincunx her Pisces Sun (orb 0º09’). Her progressed Sun was making a once-in-a-lifetime trine to Jupiter, the ruling planet of her chart. She had attained the most glamorous moment of her life in a life filled with glamorous moments.
