Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: Japan - Thanks for the Chart on Japan. I have been toying with Japan's dates for its: Old Constitution, New Constitution+when Japan was given back full sovereignity after WWII, but nothing felt quite right. It's so sad. I will continue to pray for the well being of the Japanese people, as many in the world are doing.

re: Wisconsin - “The question voters want to know is must financial reform be accompanied by union-busting, or is this a pure power play?”
           ---March 14, 2011 WolfScope

Voters can’t tell for sure.  I live in Kenosha, Wisconsin (i.e., not far from Ground Zero).  This is an immensely polarizing issue.  Some people – be they friends, spouses, co-workers or relatives -- can’t even bring it up with each other because the conversation devolves into a Plutonian meltdown in mere seconds.
Considering the State of Wisconsin’s astrological chart, which “influence” is the stronger. Scott Walker's or Wisconsin's?

response - That's a good question and a matter for long term research. I can tell you that in Wisconsin's chart (May 29, 1848; Madison, WI; noon), progressed Mars has been at 8º Scorpio and is now at 9º Scorpio - all in line with Walker's Sun and the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. This kind of cosmic convergence is an indicator of the important and intense national dynamics being played out in your state.... And a fabulous synchronicity supporting the 2:21 pm birth time for the U.S.

re: fractals -  The section on fractals was good. About 5 years ago I began to notice how patterns repeat themselves+mirror one another.

more fractals: The idea has been around at least since John Townsend first suggested it in the "Toward A Physical Basis For Astrology" chapter in the 1989 edition of Dynamic Astrology (Destiny, 1980). The physics of it is, of course, rather in dispute, though the recent article I sent you makes an attempt to explain it...

re: Mubarak ghost image - LOVE your take on the world every week—have recommended your column to all my clients.

ONE THING: Every week when I display your column, (since Feb 7 column) on the Left side of the page is Mubarak face peering down at me. This is the same portrait you had on your Feb 7 2011 column. Is anyone else noticing this or do I have some weird virus on my computer? Yes, it happens every week and anyday I pull up your NewsScope column it’s there.

resonse - I'm so sorry you are experiencing this lingering Mubarak image. It seems to be a platform problem with the webpage designer, an incompatibality between pcs and Apple computers. We have tech help working on this, and hope to clear up the problem soon.

Obama, the Reluctant Warrior

According to the New York Times, last week Secretary of State Hillary Clinton changed her mind about getting militarily involved in Libya, which set off a chain reaction of diplomatic events. By Friday President Obama ordered Gadhafi to cease fire immediately, or face military action from the U.S. and its allies in Europe and the Arab world. Gadhafi hasn’t stopped, and now intervention is underway.
Obama had been a cautious observer, but that’s not a reflection of his Mars in Virgo. After all, George W. Bush and Lyndon Johnson had Mars in Virgo, a placement that feels comfortable working with the armed services. In each case, Bush and LBJ became enmeshed in warfare when progressed Mars made challenging aspects. LBJ escalated the battle in Vietnam just as his progressed Mars opposed Saturn, a frustrating, obstacle-filled blend.

Bush intervened in Iraq as his progressed Mars was squaring his Sun, an unusually aggressive combination. For Obama, his progressed Mars is now heading into a square with natal Saturn, which is reminiscent of LBJ’s plight. However, LBJ’s Saturn was in headstrong Aries, while Obama’s Saturn is in cautious Capricorn. Since Obama’s progressed Sun and Mars are in cooperative, diplomatic Libra, he prefers to work with other countries to bring Gadhafi to justice.
2012 and the Ring of Fire

With the luminous year of 2012 rapidly approaching, and the stunning 9.0 earthquake in Japan just behind us, one has to wonder if the end of the Mayan calendar may lead to unprecedented earth changes. Comparing the horoscopes of the largest and most damaging earthquakes since 1900 shows some intriguing patterns, especially among those around the Pacific Ring of Fire.
The massive Cascadia Earthquake on January 26, 1700 (Seattle, WA; 10:00 pm*) may be considered as a foundation horoscope for the largest earthquakes around the Pacific Rim. This chart features an angular T-square with Chiron on the Ascendant, Uranus at the Midheaven, and Neptune on the Descendant. Uranus, the planet associated with shock and surprise, is at 7º Cancer, a critical degree found in many earthquake charts.

The April 18, 1906 earthquake that destroyed San Francisco took place when Uranus at 8º Capricorn was on the Midheaven and opposed Neptune at 7º Cancer. One Uranus cycle later, on October 17, 1989, an earthquake struck San Francisco again. Uranus was conjunct Saturn and Neptune and opposed Jupiter in the same degree area. The March 11, 2011 earthquake that struck Japan had Pluto at 7º Capricorn.
The activation of this degree zone by the outer planets - 6º to 8º of the cardinal signs - is one of the key signatures for earthquakes around the Pacific Rim. Another signature involves 0º to 2º of the mutable signs, which connects to Saturn in the 1700 Cascadia chart. For example, the massive 9.5 earthquake in Chile on May 22, 1960 happened precisely one Chiron cycle before the recent Japanese earthquake (Chiron was at 2º Pisces in both cases).

All this is relevant to 2012 for two reasons. First, the disruptive Uranus-Pluto square takes place at 6º to 8º in the cardinal signs Capricorn and Aries. Second, the Solar Eclipse on May 20, 2012 is at 0º Gemini, and the path of total darkness covers the northern half of the Ring of Fire. The eclipse path starts in Southeast Asia, arches northward along the Asian coast, hits the Aleutian Islands, and then heads south along the western coast of the U.S. This Solar Eclipse could indicate a dramatic activation of the Ring of Fire.
Richard Nolle’s SuperMoon

Over the last few weeks, mainstream media have been openly discussing the March 19 SuperMoon because of the apparent link between it and Japan’s 9.0 earthquake. Astrologer Richard Nolle uses the SuperMoon to predict earthquakes and has suddenly become a celebrity because of his accurate March 2011 forecast. This particular SuperMoon was an extreme case because the Moon was at its closest in 18 years.
Richard Nolle was born with his Pisces Sun opposite Saturn (March 13, 1950; 2:06 am; Orlando, FL), a challenging configuration that pits his imagination and beliefs against the hardnosed status quo. This theme is repeated several times in his chart: his Moon and Ascendant are in practical, business-oriented Capricorn, while spacey Neptune is at his Midheaven. Mercury in Pisces also opposes Saturn, so that his ideas (Mercury) face stiff skepticism (Saturn).

Fortunately for Nolle, his Pisces Sun is graced by a close trine to Pallas, the asteroid of creative intelligence. Pallas here gives him an ability to recognize underlying patterns, and urges him to work within the “system”. In this way, he’s used scientifically interesting events (astronomers refer to the SuperMoon as a “perigee-syzygy”) to make astrological forecasts.
Nolle’s career took a life-changing creative turn when his progressed Pallas and Midheaven were conjunct in 1979. That’s when he coined the term “SuperMoon” and understood its significance. Currently, transiting Jupiter and Saturn are opposing each other while aligned with his Midheaven, putting him at the center of the SuperMoon controversy. Jupiter in pioneering Aries is proud of the innovation, while Saturn in Libra (representing the skeptics) is looking around to see if anyone else buys this.
SuperMoon or Superhype? universetoday.

* Geologists know the time (estimated between 9:00 and 10:00 pm) because Japanese scholars recorded a tsunami 12 hours later. The place and time fit within possible ranges and are used here to show Uranus and Neptune angular.
Obama’s progressed Mars is making a simultaneous sextile to Uranus, indicating potential success if he plays his cards right. On April 10, Obama’s progressed Moon will oppose his Mars, and is well within orb of the action planet now. This has led to the current U.S. military strikes in Libya. Next year, Obama’s progressed Mars becomes highly energized (by his progressed Ascendant), and his progressed Moon will be in combative Aries. This likely indicates Obama will be a fully engaged Commander-in-Chief through the next election cycle.
