Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."

Michael O'Reilly
on geopolitics

"Astrology as a worldview shows us that everything is connected, that the individual is an interdependent part of the whole. "

"When Scorpio is rising, the U.S. has four planets in the eighth house, underscoring the national focus on acculating wealth and corporate influence."

"The biggest celebrities have natal planets closely connected to national planets. Their character may personify a specific planet or group of planets, so that they become a national icon or archetype."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"
~ Alice O. Howell
Reader Feedback...  re: Egypt...things building there for a long time... I spent 3 week there last year & could easily see it; first part of January hit some hot buttons astrologically and the explosion.  My 'big-buck clients' call it the "Yosemite Sam in the dynamite shack" syndrome (remember those scenes from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons?).

What makes Egypt [or what may come hereafter] so significant is its similarity to Russia's invasion of Georgia, circa August of 2008, ahead of the conjunctions that happened in September...and the resulting economic crash of that Fall.  That Russian invasion was the 'trigger mechanism' (Sam's torch in the dynamite shack)...it scared the shit out of a lot of Euro-money which created a tipping point on the rotten real estate CDS bubble (the explosives in the shack), et al.   Same scenario could be coming up this May, which another 'shack-ful' (rotten muni govt debt & finances) gets a 'torch'...we'll see.   Cardinal rule here (of world history):  economic action always follows security action.

re: U.S. dollar
"Since so much of our economic power - to both good and bad effect - is having the US Dollar as the world's reserve currency, it might be useful to look at the dollar, distinct from looks you've done on the Federal Reserve.  And as the world shed's the dollar as its sole standard - does it happen all at once?  little by little?  what effect on commodity prices? gold, silver, foodstuffs, oil?  Our projected deficit this year - $1.5T.  China is already a net seller of dollars.  The real economic crunch is still ahead of this "eye of the storm" period we're in.  I'd be interested in your perspective on these matters.

Is Algeria Next?

After Egypt’s popular uprising forced Mubarak out last week, a rolling wave of regional unrest continued in Yemen, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, and Algeria. Perhaps the greatest show of force from government officials happened in Algeria, where demonstrators chanting “Bouteflika out!” were hemmed in and blocked from marching by thousands of riot police. Abdelaziz Bouteflika has been Algeria’s president since 1999.

Algeria’s horoscope (July 3, 1962; 10:38 am; Algiers) features the Sun in Cancer as part of a Water Grand Trine with the religious planets Jupiter and Neptune. Algeria became an independent nation on the same day that actor Tom Cruise was born, and one can see the similarities in their respective religious paths. Practical Saturn squares Neptune in this chart, which for Cruise meant adding some science to his religion, while in Algeria, fundamental Islam was met with the government’s secularism.
Algeria’s history has been marred by civil war, insurgencies and terrorism, which is the manifestation of Algeria’s violent Mars-Uranus square. Uranus in the 12th house suggests hidden discontent and resentment, with anti-government forces working behind the scenes to overthrow the one-party rule. Algeria experienced a decade-long civil war beginning on December 17, 1992 when transiting Pluto opposed Mars and squared Uranus. Also, the progressed Sun was opposing Saturn, seriously dividing the nation.

The progressed Sun is now nearing a conjunction with natal Uranus. This highly volatile combination becomes exact in late July, but gathers strength between now and then. In the same interval, transiting Saturn will be turning direct while squaring Algeria’s Sun, putting pressure on Algeria’s leadership. Since Algeria’s Sun is conjunct Ceres, food riots may trigger the underlying revolutionary fervor, as they did in neighboring Tunisia.

The Uranus-Pluto Square

On June 24, 2012 our global village will be hit by the first of seven squares between Uranus and Pluto. Astrologers have been viewing this combination for years now, and noticing with some trepidation that this crisis-oriented, shape-shifting combination is arriving around the same time as the end of the Mayan calendar. The influence of this Uranus-Pluto square will begin as soon as Uranus enters Aries on March 11, 2011.

Jupiter is acting as an enthusiastic forerunner of what’s to come. Jupiter’s entrance into Aries on January 23 coincided with the beginning of the mass demonstrations in Egypt, and with more to come across the region. Another breakthrough event that took place on January 23 was the appearance of an elaborate crop circle in Indonesia. The timing, place and plant were all quantum leaps away from the usual pattern established by the mysterious circle-makers.

Around the same time, astronomers analyzing a tiny speck of the sky discovered 54 new planets that could sustain intelligent life. Projecting that number onto the known universe means that there are potentially hundreds of thousands of earth-like planets in our celestial neighborhood. The Uranus-Pluto square promises not only political revolution, but new technologies, discoveries and revelations that will shake our collective paradigms.

The Uranus-Pluto conjunction of the 1960s began the current cycle of political, economic and cultural upheaval. This opening square arrives at a time when networking technologies are instantly connecting people across the world. Anti-government messages can go viral as easily as misinformation, like Ophiuchus, the 13th sign. Whatever natal planet you have in the early degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) will describe where you can be upset by or participate in the coming changes.
Arianna Huffington’s
Political Transformation

When Arianna Huffington was discussing her $315 million merger with AOL last week, she emphasized that that the new Huffington Post would not focus on the liberal politics that made her brand famous. Those who have followed her career know that her ability to transform her political ideology is nothing new, since she was a well-known conservative Republican back in the 1990s.
Arianna Huffington was born during the New Moon in Cancer (July 15, 1950; 3:00 pm;** Athens, Greece), which along with Mercury and Pluto, is found in the 9th house of publishing. The Sun and Moon are favorably trine the Scorpio Ascendant, bringing her much success in 9th house matters, including several well-received novels. Pluto is more troublesome, since it squares the Ascendant. Pluto here is extremely passionate about beliefs, which due to the challenging square, can polarize political camps.

Ms. Huffington has Saturn in hard-working Virgo in the 10th house of management. This combination seeks fame and power, and tends to be more traditional ideologically. Over the next two years she’ll be experiencing a progressed Sun-Saturn conjunction in the 10th house, which corresponds to her new elevated position within the AOL organization.
Astrodatabank reports conflicting information about her birth: it’s either July 7 or July 15, 1950. The 3:00 pm birth time comes from astrotheme, but unfortunately, this site offers no clue about the data’s source:

Saturn contrasts with her more progressive Jupiter-Uranus trine, which fosters her free spirit. The harmonious Jupiter-Uranus trine brings inventive, progressive, future-oriented visions, and its innate optimism promises plenty of luck and prosperity. Transiting Pluto is now in corporate Capricorn, and was exactly opposite her Uranus when the deal with AOL was announced. Pluto brought her a small fortune, and in return, she denounced her liberal ideals, saying “it’s time for journalists to move beyond left and right.
