on progressions
"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"
"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."
"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."
Demetra George
on asteroids
"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."
"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."
"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."
Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos
Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."
"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."
"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."
Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes
"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."
" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."
"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

New Zealand: "Gidday Wolfstar, Down under here in New Zealand we are still shaking form the initial earthquake in Christchurch on the 4 Sept 2010. The 7.1 left us with physical damage but not fatatlies, the one today has cetainly taken its toll in human life. There has been 4,000 quakes since 4 September 2010 and today the 6.3 (unconfirmed) quake may have killed hundreds and may have been a completely different fault.
"What is the astrology. astro cart o graphy behind this moving and shaking?"
Wisconsin: "I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Wisconsin is having a MAJOR legislative upheaval. 70,000 People filled the State Capitol this past Saturday, protesting Walker’s plan to strip State employees (exempting firemen, policemen & emergency personnel) of their collective bargaining rights. ... Can you shed any astrological light on this?"
Bahrain: "I was pleasantly surprised when I saw on your site the chart for Manama, Bahrain. I was married there in June, 1976, (7th). I did not have a chart for Bahrain, in fact, my astrology teacher set up the date for me.... but to see it and look at it now, was so interesting. And adding the Video for Watson was great too!!! Thank you so much for your insight on orchestrating your site...
From Italy: "what about Lybia? We are in a big turmoil indeed!!!
re NYSE: "I'm alarmed about the potential change of chart when the NYSE is bought by the Germans. Will this not implement a new chart for the NYSE? Will it be better or worse for the world?
re Arianna: "regarding Arianna Huffington's Saturn and fame... I have Saturn Virgo 10th+I've never sought personal power or fame. I avoid it like a plague. The only power I believe in is God's power. Perhaps it's because of my sun conj neptune 12th which may have dissolved any ambition.
"When I was younger, I felt I should go thru a period of being an apprentice. Occasionally, a group would try to put me in a position of authority right away. I always turned it down. It felt wrong. That's more how saturn played out in my chart.
"Thanks for your good weekly columns."

Gadhafi’s Counter-Revolution
After mass atrocities in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Rwanda, the U.S. and European nations vowed to work harder to prevent such crimes against humanity. What is happening now in Libya is verging on becoming another killing field, as dictator Muammar Gadhafi blames hallucinogenic drugs and Osama bin Laden for the popular uprising that has split the nation.
With his Sun and four other planets in Gemini, Gadhafi (June 7, 1942; Sirte, Libya; time unknown) has a truely mercurial personality. The Saturn-Uranus conjunction can flip-flop from being a traditional, conservative type to a radical eccentric, or vice versa. Gadhafi started out as a chic Che Guevara-styled radical, but in recent years has worked more closely with Europe, and especially Italy.
Much of Gadhafi’s bizarre behavior can be attributed to his Mercury-Neptune square, which often confuses an inner reality with external conditions. As Adrian Ross Duncan* writes about this combination, “Mercury-Neptune people can actually believe their version of reality, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. They avoid the unpalatable, and believe what they want to believe.” Mass protests against the reality that Gadhafi created in Libya began on January 15, when transiting Uranus opposed Gadhafi’s Neptune.
Gadhafi has been in power since September 3, 1969 when he led a successful coup d’etat. Currently, transiting Uranus is heading into an opposition to the position of Uranus during the coup – marking the counter-revolutionary phase that Libya is now in. Gadhafi’s reign could end by March 5, since that’s when a Mars astro-event takes place similar to the one that de-throned Mubarak (transiting Mars challenging progressed Mars). This indicates that Gadhafi’s loyal military could be abandoning or betraying him this week.
Ceres and Government Unions
Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin, a Tea Party winner in the last election, has been in the headlines for his efforts to rein in the state deficit by taking on collective bargaining by government workers. The problem of swollen state budgets due to public-sector unions has parallels across the nation, so the best way to look at this issue is through the U.S. horoscope.
The dwarf planet Ceres – now a legitimate archetype in the astrologer’s metaphysical toolbox – is directly associated with workers’ benefits. Ceres is naturally related to the grains and the harvest, and by extension, governs a worker’s pension after a season of hard labor. In the U.S. chart, Ceres is in Pisces and is part of a Grand Trine connecting Jupiter and the Scorpio Ascendant. Since World War II, this very fortunate configuration has brought workers immense job security and generous pensions.
Ceres is challenged by a square to independent Uranus, a dynamic which has played out over the decades as a conflict between dependency on government support and the virtue of self-reliance. Uranus represents the spirit of advancement through merit and innovation. Ceres, as part of a Water Grand Trine, can be seen as a self-perpetuating draw on the system’s long-term financial health.
Charlie Sheen Declares War
Of all the confrontations, showdowns, strikes and ultimatums over the last two weeks, perhaps none seem more petty than Charlie Sheen’s battle with CBS executives. Last week, production for the global village’s most popular sitcom, Two and a Half Men, was halted due to Sheen’s verbal attacks on the show’s creator and lead writer, Chuck Lorre. Sheen’s main complaint is that Lorre’s no longer making interesting scripts.
Charlie Sheen’s Sun is in hardworking Virgo (September 3, 1965; 10:48 pm; New York, NY), but is buffeted about by close aspects to three outer planets, which push and pull him in different directions. With his Sun in the fifth house of entertainment and pleasure, his role as a hedonistic jingle writer is loosely based on his own lifestyle. Until last week, Sheen was the highest paid actor in television, earning $1.8 million per episode.
By secondary progression, the U.S. Ceres is at 28º Pisces. Transiting Uranus was conjunct this progressed Ceres on February 15, which was the very day that the Wisconsin protests began. Uranus soon will enter Aries and by 2012 will be squaring transiting Pluto, with both activating the U.S. Ceres and its network of aspects. From this, we can see that the Wisconsin case is only the beginning of an important public debate over the role of government unions.
Two and a Half Men debuted on September 22, 2003 when Sheen’s progressed Sun was conjunct Venus in the sixth house of work. This once-in-a-lifetime combination often refers to finding one’s true love, but for Sheen, it meant the creation of a wonderful working relationship with his fellow actors and writer Chuck Lorre. Sheen was essentially fired last week when transiting Saturn passed over the same point: Venus in his sixth house of work.
Will the show come back? Saturn will be back over this Venus in September when some movement toward reconciliation might be expected, just because so much money is involved. However, in September, Sheen’s progressed Mars will be exactly squaring his Sun, ensuring that he will remain angry and full of himself through September. After this aspect passes, the producers have a better chance of making a deal.
