on progressions
"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"
"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."
"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."
Demetra George
on asteroids
"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."
"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."
"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."
Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos
Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."
"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."
"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."
Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes
"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."
" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."
"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: Bin Laden's death - Is Osama bin Laden's death on May 1 related to what you said in the April 27 NewsScope?:
"Astrologically, the U.S. is entering a phase of escalating military objectives. On May 1, the Moon, Mars and Jupiter conjoin to make a triple conjunction in the assertive sign of Aries, promoting adventurism, over-confidence and brash boldness. This rare combination is growing in power this week, and is especially significant in U.S. combat zones because it forms a close sextile to the U.S. Mars."
response: Yes, absolutely! It's a very favorable turn for the U.S. military, suggested by the triple conjunction sextile the U.S. Mars. The outer planet Eris is also there, so really it's a quadruple conjunction. They were transiting through the U.S. sixth house of military services.
re; Chiron - "I watched the whole Royal wedding, and I really felt that the presence of Diana hung over the whole affair to the point of completely overshadowing Charles, even though he was actually there. And I thought that it seemed that at last people would have catharsis and an opportunity to finally heal from her tragic life and death, which had touched so many people so profoundly.
"Then Osama was taken out, and I thought, here is another opportunity for catharsis and healing. Two old wounds, both with world-wide impact & implications, both involving people of not-quite royal stature but fanatically adored by those who loved them, both involved in scadals and tragedies, and now, within 72 hrs of each other, the world has opportunities for catharsis and healing from both the old wounds caused by these two people.
"I know Chiron has to be part of it, but the rest eludes me and I wondered what you thought."
re: Algol - "The Full Moon on the 17th aligns with Algol, the most evil star in the heavens." Ack! This is my son's 22nd birthday and he's about to graduate from art school and head out on his own. What does this solar return bode for him!? I'm not asking for an in-depth analysis, just a short phrase like "Fasten your seatbelts" or "It's only for one year" or "He's young--He'll get over it." Just a little something to allay fears and let me continue in the hope that he'll find a job! ;-)
response - Every chart is unique, and having the Sun conjunct Algol doesn't tell us much in itself. The Sun may be highly energized by Algol, or if natal outer planets "afflict" the Sun, then you might see some problems. As for the Solar Return on this date, the Sun forms a hard aspect to Saturn, suggesting the task of becoming an adult and entering the real world.
re: Orbs - "When you are doing a chart, How far do you go for orbs?"
response - It varies depending on the aspect and planets or asteroids involved. Major aspects and traditional planets, generally around 8 degrees, but I always look for the tightest aspects, esp the hard ones, to show where the key dynamics are. In forecast work, the orbs are very tight, less than one degree, and even 1/4 degree when using a national chart, although outer planet cycles can be five degrees or so and have their influence felt.
Mars-Vesta-Uranus combinations in the charts of Pakistan, Iran, and the Pentagon. Iran's Mars-Vesta (middle graphic) trines Uranus
NewsScope for May 9, 2011
By Michael Wolfstar
Pakistan’s Vesta-Mars
According to The New York Times, the CIA first suspected that Osama bin Laden was hiding out in Abbottabad on August 1, 2010. On March 14, 2011, President Obama began discussing options with the NSC about how to capture or kill bin Laden. These dates and the final showdown on May 1 highlight the underlying mistrust and instability between the U.S. and Pakistan.
Pakistan’s horoscope (August 14, 1947; 9:33 am; Karachi) features Mars at the Midheaven, a celestial signature for the dominant role the military plays in Pakistan’s history. On August 1, 2010, transiting Uranus was at 0º Aries, squaring Pakistan’s Mars from the 7th house of partners. Independent Uranus returned to square Pakistan’s Mars a few months ago as Obama planned how to circumvent Pakistan’s sovereignty in order to get bin Laden.
Vesta is associated with secret fraternities or orders. Vesta conjunct Mars refers to the close partnership between Pakistan’s military and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Vesta-Mars conjunctions can also be found in the horoscopes of Iran and the U.S. Pentagon, and describe similar in-house partnerships between the military and spy agencies. Currently, transiting Uranus is squaring Pakistan’s Vesta, which likely indicates a shake-up at the ISI by the end of the month.
The current president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, has been unable to control internal terrorism or foreign policy. This can be seen in Pakistan’s chart since progressed Saturn is right on the natal Sun (orb: 0º03’). As Mars’s elevated position indicates, the real power is in the military. Between now and March 2012, transiting Uranus will be squaring Pakistan’s Vesta-Mars, suggesting a phase when Pakistan’s military-intelligence factions will be highly defensive, irritable, nervous, and prone to sudden disruptions.
Osama Bin Laden Timeline
Osama bin Laden’s horoscope is not known for certain, although the most quoted birthdate – March 10, 1957 – works quite well when comparing the natal configurations to key events. The place and time are even more speculative, but Jiddah, Saudi Arabia (Riyadh is the other possibility) and 10:58 am** are good candidates.
The Pisces Sun and other placements in faith-oriented Pisces square Saturn in self-righteous Sagittarius, a sure indicator for religious fundamentalism. Mars in the secretive 12th house (conjunct the evil star Algol) squares Pluto and explains bin Laden’s willingness to use terrorism to achieve his ends. Vesta (secret societies) at the Midheaven easily represents bin Laden’s leadership role in founding Al Qaeda since Vesta opposes Pluto and squares Mars.
On February 23, 1998, bin Laden and his cohorts issued a fatwah calling for the death of American civilians, which began Al Qaeda’s terrorist campaign against the U.S. At the time, transiting Pluto was right on bin Laden’s Descendant, while Bin Laden’s progressed Mars at 21º Gemini was exactly conjunct the U.S. Mars.
On September 11, 2001, bin Laden’s progressed Sun had recently entered the 12th house and was squaring natal Uranus, leading to the ultimate surprise attack. Also, his progressed Moon and transiting Uranus were at his Midheaven, permanently identifying this radical event with his international reputation. Transiting Uranus was squaring his Lunar Nodes with an orb of only 0º04’.
By 2011, bin Laden had been hiding from U.S. hit teams for 12 years, which readily corresponds to his progressed Sun’s passage through his 12th house for the previous 12 years. When the CIA got wind of his Abbottabad hideout, transiting Uranus had just entered Aries, and was squaring his natal Moon at 0º Cancer. The Navy Seals accomplished their mission on May 1 during the New Moon in Taurus, which landed right on bin Laden’s progressed Sun.
Philippe Dauman, the Highest-Paid CEO
Last Friday AP released its list of the highest-paid CEOs in the S&P 500. At the top was Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman, who earned $84.5 million in 2010 from his salary, perks, bonuses and stock options. Viacom – the world’s fourth largest media conglomerate – praised Dauman for “his strategic and operational experience, his in-depth understanding of our industry, and his connections in the business community.”
Philippe Dauman was born with his Sun in the business-first sign of Capricorn (January 3, 1954; New York, NY; time unknown), a position much enhanced by its network of favorable aspects. A socially skillful Mercury-Venus conjunction in Capricorn is only a few degrees away. His leadership skills are strengthened by the Sun’s sextile to a Mars-Saturn conjunction in Scorpio, and given an instinct for efficiency by the close trine to Pallas in Virgo.
While many Capricorns may be blessed with such ambitious, competent alignments, Dauman has a celestial advantage because his warrior planet is conjunct the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. At the moment, his progressed Sun and Mars are
exactly square each other, signifying the culmination of an intensely competitive year for him. Viacom says that 90% of his compensation was performance driven based on the company’s improved stock price.
Although the progressed Sun-Mars dynamic is now waning in power, we can expect to see much more of Dauman in the business news over the coming two years. Transiting Pluto is currently passing over his Mercury-Venus conjunction, allowing him to leverage his assets and business connections. Over the next two years, the transiting Uranus-Pluto square will be activating his Sun, implying a heightened presence and intensified activities across the business community.
