Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: Algol - "The Full Moon on the 17th aligns with Algol, the most evil star in the heavens." Ack! This is my son's 22nd birthday and he's about to graduate from art school and head out on his own. What does this solar return bode for him!? I'm not asking for an in-depth analysis, just a short phrase like "Fasten your seatbelts" or "It's only for one year" or "He's young--He'll get over it." Just a little something to allay fears and let me continue in the hope that he'll find a job! ;-)
response - Every chart is unique, and having the Sun conjunct Algol doesn't tell us much in itself. The Sun may be highly energized by Algol, or if natal outer planets "afflict" the Sun, then you might see some problems. As for the Solar Return on this date, the Sun forms a hard aspect to Saturn, suggesting the task of becoming an adult and entering the real world.

re: Orbs - "When you are doing a chart, How far do you go for orbs?"
response - It varies depending on the aspect and planets or asteroids involved. Major aspects and traditional planets, generally around 8 degrees, but I always look for the tightest aspects, esp the hard ones, to show where the key dynamics are. In forecast work, the orbs are very tight, less than one degree, and even 1/4 degree when using a national chart, although outer planet cycles can be five degrees or so and have their influence felt.

re: Libya - "More on Libya please. Who's safe?  Who's next?  How long does this go on? We already know that our CIA was instrumental in recruiting, organizing, funding and guiding the so-called "rebels."
Russia and China have protested the NATO invasion, branded a support of the "rebels."  This is an explosive situation. Are we on the verge of a major, even WWIII type, scenario? What responsibility do we in the astrological community have to shed light on this situation?"

re: Wisconsin - “The question voters want to know is must financial reform be accompanied by union-busting, or is this a pure power play?”
           ---March 14, 2011 WolfScope

Voters can’t tell for sure.  I live in Kenosha, Wisconsin (i.e., not far from Ground Zero).  This is an immensely polarizing issue.  Some people – be they friends, spouses, co-workers or relatives -- can’t even bring it up with each other because the conversation devolves into a Plutonian meltdown in mere seconds.
Considering the State of Wisconsin’s astrological chart, which “influence” is the stronger. Scott Walker's or Wisconsin's?

response - That's a good question and a matter for long term research. I can tell you that in Wisconsin's chart (May 29, 1848; Madison, WI; noon), progressed Mars has been at 8º Scorpio and is now at 9º Scorpio - all in line with Walker's Sun and the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. This kind of cosmic convergence is an indicator of the important and intense national dynamics being played out in your state.... And a fabulous synchronicity supporting the 2:21 pm birth time for the U.S.

re: Liz Taylor - "She left us when Venus was at 25 degrees Aquarius conj. the US moon."

Noam Chomsky’s Worldview

A recent blog post from MIT Professor Noam Chomsky has been widely circulated over the last week, offering an intellectual counterpoint to the usual sound bites and bumper-sticker jousting carried on by talking heads. The far-ranging essay examines current events in light of U.S. foreign policy that was implemented after World War II when the U.S. was in a position of overwhelming supremacy.
Noam Chomsky was born with an ambitious Sun-Saturn conjunction in philosophical Sagittarius (December 7, 1928; 7:00 am; Philadelphia, PA). The Sagittarian’s natural tendency to look at The Big Picture first brought Chomsky academic recognition in the field of linguistics, where he postulated that a universal grammar influences all languages. His Sun is also quincunx Pluto, bringing a level of intensity to everything he does, and with Saturn’s involvement, a keen interest in the structure of power.

Chomsky is often described as a radical or social activist. Uranus in Aries sits at the foundation of his chart, where it squares Mars in the 7th house of others. This angular placement shapes his irrepressible political views, which have been widely quoted and discussed around the world. Chomsky began his role as an American dissident in February 1967 with the publication of his article opposing the Vietnam War.
Why should Chomsky aim his barbs at the U.S.? Primarily, his Sun-Saturn happens to oppose the U.S. Mars, and so he’s generally taking on the Pentagon’s imperialism. Currently, he’s experiencing a Uranus Return, which energizes his fighting spirit. Also this year, his progressed Sun is conjunct natal Ceres in Pisces, so he is assuming the role of a spiritual counselor: “As long as the general population is passive, apathetic, diverted to consumerism or hatred of the vulnerable, then the powerful can do as they please.”
China Rising

Last week the IMF made an official forecast that China’s economy will surpass the U.S. economy in 2016. This surprising news was disputed by many financially savvy observers, with the main criticism being that this transition date changes depending on how one measures the economy. Another criticism is that China’s economy is overheating (especially the housing market) and could soon face a severe correction.
A look at China’s horoscope (October 1, 1949; 3:01 pm; Beijing) reveals a phenomenal alignment shaping up over the next few years. China’s progressed Venus, Jupiter and Midheaven will all simultaneously be conjunct the Aquarius Ascendant in 2017. This extremely rare and fortunate quadruple conjunction does indeed suggest that China is becoming an economic superpower – and much faster than most Americans think.
The U.S. emerged as an economic superpower in the 1890s when the historic Neptune-Pluto conjunction landed right on the U.S. Uranus. In the Scorpio Rising U.S. chart, Uranus is located in the 8th house of capitalism. Its major activation led to many technological advances which were transformed into successful industrial enterprises by venture capitalists. Now and over the last decade, transiting Pluto has opposed the U.S. 8th house planets, undermining U.S. economic dominance.

China has one huge celestial obstacle to navigate around before it can continue on its breathtaking 8-10% annual growth. Next year’s Uranus-Pluto square happens to hit China’s Sun at 7º, which may bring an economic shock. A bursting economic bubble would in turn create a leadership crisis when the 18th National Congress meets to rubberstamp the current leaders’ heirs. However, with the dramatic progressed chart gaining influence over the next few years, China’s star is definitely rising.
Lara Logan’s Nightmare

While covering the Egyptian revolution last February, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was brutally assaulted by a mob of 200 to 300 men. At the time, she issued a statement about what happened because it “didn’t leave me to carry the burden alone, like my dirty little secret.” News of the attack went around the world, and highlighted the dangers that women face while reporting.
Lara Logan was born with a Sun-Pallas conjunction in Aries (March 29, 1971; Durban, South Africa; time unknown), giving her a warrior’s mentality to fight for what she believes in. Her career has been much assisted by her Sun’s close trine to a Jupiter-Neptune conjunction, while her interest in reporting from war zones and other high risk assignments can be seen in her Sun’s square to Mars and opposition to Uranus.

With her Venus in egalitarian Aquarius, Logan had no problem reporting from Iraq and Afghanistan as an embedded journalist with the American armed forces. However, Venus forms a quincunx to Pluto, and her aloof attitude was often challenged by impassioned soldiers. On February 11, 2011
when she was attacked, transiting Uranus and Neptune were activating her Venus-Pluto, while a transiting Venus-Pluto conjunction aligned with her Mars.

Currently, as she describes her ordeal on CBS’s 60 Minutes, transiting Venus and Saturn are opposing each other while aligned with her Sun. The stressful Venus aspects reflect the harshness of the experience, and the psychological wounding that she carries. Over the next two years, her progressed Sun is approaching natal Saturn, undoubtedly bringing a heightened sense of caution at a time when her daring Aries Sun will be wildly activated by the epochal Uranus-Pluto square.
