Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: earthquakes - "I just got around to reading your excellent piece on earthquakes. I posted a short article in the ISAR Newsletter about the 2012 eclipse.
I wonder where you get your information about eclipse paths. I use pages from NASA starting with http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/solar.html. I described the path of the eclipse based on the maps they provide as "[the] annular solar eclipse will start in extreme southern China, move over Hong Kong, some of Taiwan, then run up most of the eastern side of Japan--going directly through Tokyo. It will then go out to sea, skirting the Aleutian Islands, to make landfall in northern California through the southern part of the Cascadia subduction zone, and terminating in northern Texas." The NASA website is an incredible resource for students of eclipses.

re: Wisconsin - “The question voters want to know is must financial reform be accompanied by union-busting, or is this a pure power play?”
           ---March 14, 2011 WolfScope

Voters can’t tell for sure.  I live in Kenosha, Wisconsin (i.e., not far from Ground Zero).  This is an immensely polarizing issue.  Some people – be they friends, spouses, co-workers or relatives -- can’t even bring it up with each other because the conversation devolves into a Plutonian meltdown in mere seconds.
Considering the State of Wisconsin’s astrological chart, which “influence” is the stronger. Scott Walker's or Wisconsin's?

response - That's a good question and a matter for long term research. I can tell you that in Wisconsin's chart (May 29, 1848; Madison, WI; noon), progressed Mars has been at 8º Scorpio and is now at 9º Scorpio - all in line with Walker's Sun and the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. This kind of cosmic convergence is an indicator of the important and intense national dynamics being played out in your state.... And a fabulous synchronicity supporting the 2:21 pm birth time for the U.S.

re: Liz Taylor - "She left us when Venus was at 25 degrees Aquarius conj. the US moon."

Political Theater in 2012

Last Friday, a government shutdown was avoided by a compromise just 90 minutes before the deadline. All sides declared victory, but the intense political theater is likely only the opening scene for the real drama coming in 2012. That’s when Republicans will back a budget plan proposed by Tea Party favorite Paul Ryan that slashes programs for the poor while cutting taxes for the super-rich.

Late last Friday the situation did not look good: Mars was still applying to square Pluto, a combative combination that fosters unconditional assertion of one’s own will. What turned the tide was the little asteroid Pallas, which is associated with political strategy and working within the system to accomplish objectives. At 10:30 pm Pallas was at 8º34’ Aquarius, to-the-minute square the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant.

The Mars-Pluto square is relevant to 2012 because the relatively fast-moving Mars will be replaced by Uranus, the slow-moving outer planet that carries a radical political agenda. Uranus and Pluto make their first of seven squares on June 24, 2012 at 8º of Aries and Capricorn. In the U.S., this degree area is highly sensitive to transits since the Scorpio Ascendant, natal Uranus and natal Ceres are all at 8º of their respective signs.

As for the presidential campaign cycle, Saturn will enter Scorpio, the nation’s rising sign, in October 2012. Recalling that Scorpio is associated with leveraged capital, conservative Saturn in this sign tends to favor pro-business Republicans. The last time Saturn entered Scorpio was in 1982, and Ronald Reagan had recently been elected. Prior to that, Saturn in Scorpio brought Dwight Eisenhower and Calvin Coolidge into office. If Obama expects to get re-elected, he’ll have to appease America’s corporatocracy.

Ai Weiwei Detained

The current Mars-Pluto square at 7º Aries-Capricorn has brought a political crackdown on dissidents in China. This is hardly surprising to political astrologers, since China’s Sun is at 7º Libra, but it does tell us that China is in for some major upheavals next year when the Uranus-Pluto square takes over. The international community didn’t pay much attention until last week when renowned artist Ai Weiwei was detained.
Donald Trump Polls at #2

According to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC poll, Donald Trump is now coming in second among Republican candidates for the 2012 presidential election, just 4 points behind perennial candidate Mitt Romney. In both 1988 and 1999 Trump made noises about running for president, but then backed out at the last minute. Is 2011 any different, or does his strong showing merit a real campaign?
Donald Trump was born with his Sun in multitasking Gemini (June 14, 1946; 10:54 am; Queens, NY) where it conjoins Uranus and opposes his Sagittarius Moon. This combination promotes a highly restless, independent, constantly changing personality, but not one that is particularly suitable for the daily responsibilities of the White House. However, with his Sun conjunct the U.S. Mars, Trump has become an iconic American personality who can cash in on his celebrity status any way he wants.

A Mercury-Neptune-Pallas T-square tells us more about his ambivalence. Mercury square Neptune and opposite Pallas tends to read political tea leaves, reasoning more with gut instincts and emotions than logic. Trump’s T-square is being activated now and over the next year by the epochal Uranus-Pluto
square, indicating that his political statements will be designed to shock and surprise (Uranus), and to manipulate public opinion (Pluto).

Transiting Neptune conjunct his Descendant emphasizes unrealistic or impractical thinking, and the lack of rational analysis. Under this influence, Trump becomes vulnerable to illusion, deception, and misrepresentation of the facts. Plus, Neptune influences don’t bestow the fire-in-the-belly desire to win. Then, transiting Saturn is low in his chart, where it lessens his ambition for the nation’s highest office. In June, after Saturn turns direct and squares his Pallas, we should get a more definitive statement from Trump that he’s not really interested.
Ai Weiwei was born with his Sun in critical Virgo (August 28, 1957, Beijing; time unknown). With his Sun conjunct Mars and Pluto, Weiwei’s criticism of China’s communist leadership has been unrestrained and harsh. The Sun-Mars-Pluto squares Saturn in ethical Sagittarius, and this configuration describes the life-and-death moral struggle he feels compelled to fight. The Sun intertwined with Mars, Pluto, and Saturn can lead to brutal confrontations.

On the other hand, Weiwei’s Venus in Libra is unusually well-placed. As the natural ruler of artistic endeavors, Venus is given an appreciation for aesthetics and balance in Libra. Her conjunction with Jupiter promises professional success in the arts and a wide social circle of friends and acquaintances. Venus is sextile Saturn on one side and Uranus on the other, so that she acts as a bridge between the old ways (Saturn) and the new (Uranus).
Weiwei’s Venus is close to China’s Sun, so he could do much to enhance China in the international scene. His work is currently being shown at London’s prestigious Tate Gallery of Modern Art**, which is running from October 12, 2010 through May 2, 2011. This phase coincides with an empowering trine from transiting Pluto to his Sun. Currently, transiting Chiron is opposing his Sun, which may mean he gets roughed up a bit while being detained. Still, transiting Pluto trine his Sun will come back into play soon, bringing him protection and more publicity.
