Bernadette Brady
on progressions

"The progression will seem to manifest first as a feeling or need and then as an action"

"Progressions are the way the cosmos manifests through us, as compared to a transit, which manifests on us."

"Progressions are a richer source of information than transits. They tap into the realm of the inner, personal world, showing both day-to-day motivations as well as unshakable life statements or desires."

Demetra George
on asteroids

"Astrologers need the asteroids because the tradi-tional planets simply do not and cannot fully explain the issues which are emerging - simply because they are new."

"Before the use of asteroids, the only significators of the feminine in the traditional chart interpretation were the Moon and Venus. The socially acceptable roles for women were the Moon as mother and Venus as mate."

"Ceres, Pallas, June and Vesta represent the new voices of the dormant feminine, recently activated and now demanding power, recognition, justice, and equality in our society."

Richard Tarnas
on the cosmos

Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."

"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."

"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

Nicholas Campion
on national horoscopes

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."

" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."

"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

"This was a fantastic issue! Your insights and knowledge overwhelm me!"

re: earthquakes - "I just got around to reading your excellent piece on earthquakes. I posted a short article in the ISAR Newsletter about the 2012 eclipse.
I wonder where you get your information about eclipse paths. I use pages from NASA starting with http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/solar.html. I described the path of the eclipse based on the maps they provide as "[the] annular solar eclipse will start in extreme southern China, move over Hong Kong, some of Taiwan, then run up most of the eastern side of Japan--going directly through Tokyo. It will then go out to sea, skirting the Aleutian Islands, to make landfall in northern California through the southern part of the Cascadia subduction zone, and terminating in northern Texas." The NASA website is an incredible resource for students of eclipses.

re: Wisconsin - “The question voters want to know is must financial reform be accompanied by union-busting, or is this a pure power play?”
           ---March 14, 2011 WolfScope

Voters can’t tell for sure.  I live in Kenosha, Wisconsin (i.e., not far from Ground Zero).  This is an immensely polarizing issue.  Some people – be they friends, spouses, co-workers or relatives -- can’t even bring it up with each other because the conversation devolves into a Plutonian meltdown in mere seconds.
Considering the State of Wisconsin’s astrological chart, which “influence” is the stronger. Scott Walker's or Wisconsin's?

response - That's a good question and a matter for long term research. I can tell you that in Wisconsin's chart (May 29, 1848; Madison, WI; noon), progressed Mars has been at 8º Scorpio and is now at 9º Scorpio - all in line with Walker's Sun and the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. This kind of cosmic convergence is an indicator of the important and intense national dynamics being played out in your state.... And a fabulous synchronicity supporting the 2:21 pm birth time for the U.S.

re: Liz Taylor - "She left us when Venus was at 25 degrees Aquarius conj. the US moon."
These triwheel segments are set for Obama's progressed Full Moon on November 5, 2011. The inside wheel is Obama's natal, with the outer two wheels being his progressions and transits for this date.

Obama Kicks Off his 2012 Campaign

President Obama’s fiscal policy speech last Wednesday was unrestrained in criticizing the GOP budget plan written by Tea Party favorite Paul Ryan. Until last week, Obama had been playing the part of the patient parent, guiding undisciplined fringe elements of both parties to avoid a government shutdown. But on Wednesday, he did an about-face by supporting traditional entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security.

The closest aspect in Obama’s horoscope* is Saturn quincunx Uranus, a challenging combination pitting personal freedom versus responsibility. While Obama is playing out his disciplined, restrained side of Saturn, the Uranian side wants to break free and express its unique, radical, or independent ideas. Obama had been locked in his Saturn role as the Mediator-in-Chief, but on the day of his fiscal policy speech, transiting Uranus was exactly squaring his Venus, creating an abrupt shift.

Transiting Jupiter was exactly trine his Descendant during this speech, and his liberal base was pleasantly surprised after complaining long and loud that Obama had abandoned them. Obama went immediately from his bully pulpit in Washington to a fundraiser in Chicago, where he was caught on an open mic making blunt remarks about Republicans. Whether planned or accidental, this incident reflects the sudden freedom he felt, granted by the liberating Jupiter and Uranus influences.
Over the coming year, Obama’s progressed Ascendant is opposing his progressed Mars, while both square natal Saturn. This indicates an ongoing fight, hardball politics at its meanest, most ruthless level. Also, Obama will experience a progressed Full Moon during the first week of November 2011, which will be activated by transiting Uranus. This is a highly volatile configuration and suggests a major government crisis at this time, perhaps an actual shutdown over the 2012 budget.
Syrian President Bashar Assad

Last Saturday, Syria’s President Bashar Assad addressed his nation to announce that he will lift the state of emergency rule that has been in effect for the last 50 years. Mass protests have been growing over the past four weeks, but Assad said there will no longer be an excuse for marches on Damascus. “We will not tolerate any attempt at sabotage”, he warned.
Bashar Assad was born with his Virgo Sun conjunct the epochal Uranus-Pluto conjunction of the turbulent sixties (September 11, 1965; Damascus, Syria; time unknown). Natally, this triple conjunction is under great stress from an opposition to Saturn, which gives Assad tremendous responsibilities while he simultaneously feels the need for complete independence to follow his own path. Since he is the President, the Uranian element periodically rises up in revolution.

Assad was born only one week after actor Charlie Sheen, and we can see similar developmental crises in their respective kingdoms. The celestial culprit is Mars, which by secondary progression is now squaring the Sun-Uranus-Pluto complex. In Assad’s chart, the closest aspect progressed
Mars is making is the square to Pluto, which explains his conspiracy theories about foreign intervention. Progressed Mars to Pluto can indicate brutal repression of any resistance to his rule.

Syria’s horoscope (November 13, 1970; 6:08 am; Damascus) explains how this uprising came to a critical mass. Four weeks ago when the demonstrations began, transiting Uranus was exactly square Syria’s progressed Sun at 1°15’ Capricorn, reflecting the rebellion (Uranus) against authoritative rule (Sun). Also, transiting Saturn in Libra has been passing over Syria’s natal Mars-Uranus conjunction, which suggests the bloody confrontations. Transiting Saturn and Uranus will remain in these challenging locations through the end of 2011, so we haven’t seen the last of this protest movement.
Walter Breuning, The World’s Oldest Man

Until last week, supercentenarian Walter Breuning held the title as the world’s oldest man. For the last five years he became a bit of a celebrity for his longevity, and offered sage advice on health habits, how politics has changed, and his philosophy of life. He died on April 14 of natural causes 114 years and 205 days after he was born.

Walter Breuning was born with his Sun in health-conscious Virgo (September 21, 1896; Melrose, MN; time unknown). The Sun’s vitality and general outgoing nature is hampered by an octile to Saturn, which can bring many obstacles and difficulties. Walter was born into poverty, and grew up without running water or electricity. He eventually overcame his challenges by getting a job with the railroad, which he held for 50 years.
Like a true Virgo, Breuning often praised the value of work. After he retired from the railroad, he stayed active with the local Shriners until he was 99. And also very Virgo-like, he held to a strict diet and maintained his body weight constant for the last 50 years. Saturn enforced the rigid discipline, but the Sun’s very close opposition to Ceres helped him to nourish his own body and mind.

In Breuning’s chart, Ceres is well-placed by being in faith-oriented Pisces, where it receives additional spiritual blessings from a close quincunx to Jupiter in Leo. Over the last few years, as transiting Pluto squared his Sun-Ceres polarity, he began advising a wide audience about how to eat well. He told USA Today that he eats plenty of fruit and drinks lots of water. “You get in the habit of not eating at night, and you realize how good you feel. If you could just tell people not to eat so darn much.”
Walter Breuning's Ceres aspects both Jupiter and Neptune, a signature for longevity described in the last four paragraphs of this article on Ceres.
