Astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive."
"The modern dismissal of astrology reflects the virtually universal conviction that the cosmos is disenchanted."
"The universe is a fundamentally and irreducibly interconnected whole, informed by creative intelligence and pervaded by patterns of meaning and order that extend through every level, and that are expressed through a constant correspondence between astronomical events and human events."

"Experiment with the charts. Make predictions. And yes, prediction remains a perfectly valid exercise: one successful prediction reveals more about the nature of the universe than a hundred retrospective studies."
" Just as the individual is contained within the collective, so natal astrology can be seen as contained within mundane astrology."
"The modern nation state is largely a creation of the French revolution and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as capitalism becomes global."
"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"
re: economy - June was looking grim for the US ecomomy until last week when the Greek debt crisis was smoothed over and Wall Street took off on a tear. I'm thinking the optimism is premature since Saturn is still squaring the US Sun as well as the worldwide influence of Pluto square Uranus. I did notice Jupiter in Taurus is opposite the ascendant in the Scorpio rising US chart you favor. Perhaps the optimistic feeling is short-lived since the Saturn, Pluto, and Uranus transits last much longer than the Jupiter effect.
more on the economy - Now, we are watching the slow demise of the capitalized world. Yes, it will fall, the question before us is whether it will be a slow demise or a CRASH heard round the world. That has yet to be determined. But Greece will go into bankrupt sooner or later, I predict much sooner than most of us anticipate. My sincere suggestion is that you visit Bill Herbst's website and read the two articles he has posted there in PDF form this month as well as some of the older essays he has written on global events and the economy both past and present.
Q. Throughout history, exceptional, powerful men have had sexual dalliances. These extraordinary man have, and will continue, to impact the lives of humanity. Some of these men for naught, but many many for good. So what do these sexual dalliances say about them? And what does this say about us? Are we more hypocritical … or less? Are we more puritanical … or more sexually open? As always, you do a fantastic job!
re: Arizona - Many compliments on another great column. Thought: could the "fire" in Arizona's chart connect to the "firing," gun"fire," on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her constituents?
thx - Thanks for your wonderful column. DSK post, and others, fascinating.
Q. - Tangential fun side questions: Chelsey? Pippa"!
Keep up your good work!
re: Federer - I just looked at Federer natal chart and couldn't believe that someone with this kind of fame and success is born with the Sun in house XII and doesn't even have one planet in house X!
A. Well, he is a Leo, and it's hard to keep a strong Leo out of the limelight. Notice that he has a formidable Jupitrer-Saturn in the 2nd house of money closely trine the MC. This helps build his career and promises financial security (wealth even) in the process.
re: Bin Laden's death - Is Osama bin Laden's death on May 1 related to what you said in the April 27 NewsScope?:
"Astrologically, the U.S. is entering a phase of escalating military objectives. On May 1, the Moon, Mars and Jupiter conjoin to make a triple conjunction in the assertive sign of Aries, promoting adventurism, over-confidence and brash boldness. This rare combination is growing in power this week, and is especially significant in U.S. combat zones because it forms a close sextile to the U.S. Mars."
A: Yes, absolutely! It's a very favorable turn for the U.S. military, suggested by the triple conjunction sextile the U.S. Mars. The outer planet Eris is also there, so really it's a quadruple conjunction. They were transiting through the U.S. sixth house of military services.

Christine Lagarde at the IMF
As Dominique Strauss-Kahn exits the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde - France’s Minister of Economic Affairs - takes over for a five-year term. Lagarde has a distinguished history as the first woman leader in a variety of high-profile positions. What astrological factors might account for her elevated status?
Christine Lagarde has a powerful natal horoscope (January 1, 1956; 1:40 pm; Paris), which features an ambitious Capricorn Sun in the 9th house of education and law. Her father was a noted university professor, and Lagarde began her career as a lawyer with the prestigious international firm Baker & McKenzie. A Moon-Pluto conjunction in Leo gives her emotional depth and a regal presence that commands respect.
The most dynamic placement in her chart is Pallas in Capricorn, which is exactly conjunct the Midheaven. Pallas here offers the gift of creative intelligence within the business world, and the urge to attain a position of responsibility. Pallas is given a steel will by the sextile to Mars in Scorpio. Venus, the ruler of her chart, is conjunct Ceres, which softens her personality and adds an element of empathy and compassion.
Last week’s Solar Eclipse was less than one degree from opposing Lagarde’s Sun, marking her for this important geopolitical post. Her several Capricorn placements (especially Pallas) indicate that she’s a committed supporter of the world’s financial institutions. She will certainly have her hands full over the next few years as the transiting Uranus-Pluto square undermines the Eurozone. This epochal outer planet game-changer hits her Sun in 2013, which suggests a time frame when she (and the rest of the world) may be hit by the most serious economic crisis.
Michele Bachmann’s Moon
Last week, Michele Bachmann announced her candidacy for president. In an interview, the evangelical politician said that God called her to run for the nation’s highest office. Bachmann quickly surged to number two in the GOP rankings behind Mitt Romney. However, as previously noted*, Bachmann has no natal or progressed planets at 25º, which would count her out of the running.
Unless her Moon is at 25º Aquarius. Assuming for a moment that this is the case, she would be born around 2 pm (April 6, 1956; Waterloo, Iowa). This places her Aries Sun in the 9th house of religion, and also puts her Jupiter-Pluto conjunction (the “true believer” signature) right on the Leo Ascendant. Neptune in the 3rd house might well describe her looseness with facts.
The Aquarius Moon is conjunct the political strategy asteroid near the Descendant, the beginning of the 7th house of partners. Unlike the over-insulated Sarah Palin, Bachmann has hired seasoned political strategists, notably, legendary Ed Rollins and two of John McCain’s top advisers. These mentors become, in essence, her campaign partners.
Irrespective of her Moon’s actual location, Bachmann’s impact on the political scene can be seen in her other contacts with the U.S. national chart. Her Mars at 24º Capricorn is exactly opposite the U.S. Mercury, indicating her relentless verbal attacks. Vesta at 9º Scorpio is conjunct the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, which relates to her religious devotion and how well that sits with the national self-image. She will do well in fundamentalist Iowa, but outside that state, Americans may not be so welcoming of her religious activism.
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers
With the growing popularity of Dancing with the Stars, ballroom dancing is experiencing a tremendous revival. Movie and theater houses are taking advantage of the trend by recycling old Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers flicks, while Michele Bachmann supporters are fond of noting that Ginger did everything Fred did, but backwards and in high heels. What was their silver screen magic?
Fred Astaire (May 10, 1899; 9:16 pm; Omaha, NE) and Ginger Rogers (July 16, 1911; 2:18 am; Independence, MO) were born exactly one Jupiter cycle apart from each other, so that they find similar opportunities in life. Since their Jupiters conjoin the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, their enthusiasm about dancing in the 1930s perked up a nation dogged by depression.
Ginger’s Saturn is conjunct Fred’s Sun, and Fred’s Saturn is quincunx Ginger’s Sun. This mutual Sun-Saturn exchange describes the intense discipline and hard work that they brought to the dance floor, and an enduring partnership that lasted through ten films together.
Fred’s Pluto was right on Ginger’s Gemini Ascendant, so that he was like Pygmalion, transforming a good dancer into one of the century’s finest. And then Ginger’s Pluto is conjunct Fred’s South Node and opposite his Juno, suggesting a karmic partnership that elevated them both to stardom.
Fred’s natal Venus trine Mars in fire signs is balanced by her Venus trine Mars in earth signs, so that they both brought a natural sexuality to the dance floor that looked spontaneous, carefree and erotic. Every film they made involved some seemingly irreconcilable conflict, which is reflected by her Mars squaring his Mars. Invariably, the tension was resolved through their unprecedented elegance and virtuosity in graceful ballroom dances.
