"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: NewsScope - You've got everything in the column this week: Pluto, money, international intrigue, and undersea UFOs. I wonder if the vast UFO coverup folks are going to be at work. Finding a UFO would upset the whole religious kittycart. Or it should. Well, except the scientologists.

re: Antares - Good column this week. Thank you.
I wanted to mention that USA Uranus is not conjunct bloodthirsty Antares but is in opposition to it (8 Sagittarius). It is, however, conjunct Aldebaran, which is associated with honor and integrity but also with warmongering. The USA's Uranus's opposition to Antares in relation to
the growing transiting Uranus-Pluto square (first one exact this June), could signal violence from and against the many who stand with the OCCUPY movement. Uranus can escalate through tactics of anarchy on location as well as through continued hacktivism behind the safety of a computer screen. Adding the election silly season and the brinksmanship of Israel, Iran and Syria to the mix, I believe we're heading for a long hot summer.

re: Gingrich - That was interesting, what you said about how only 3 Presidents had Mars in the 12th House+they were not even elected. Makes sense. I never thought about that before. Thank you.

re: NewsScope - "i so enjoy reading your columns....you are so insightful and astute.  keep up the good work."

re:  March 4 election for Russia: Is it just a judgment call when one uses the newly formed country of Russia's horoscope, after the dissolution of USSR, or whether one uses still the USSR horoscope that came about after WWI ? We're in a conundrum in Latvia, for example, with varied horoscopes  being used, one of them going back to the Republic's first chart in 1918...

A. I think the June 12, 1990 chart is the most relevant, but you might also pay attention to common degree areas between the various charts, as well as planetary combinations to chart cycles.
The Uranus-Pluto square in June aligns with Russia's Mars-UR square, so whatever happens in March is only the beginning of major internal upheaval, it seems to me.

re: corporations - Well, looks like coporations as people will be with us for quite a while. I was kinda hopin' that the broad, legal (over)reach by corporations via the Supremes might have instigated a political backlash that would curb corporate power, but not in the near future, obviously. Thank you once again for fulfilling on a topic I've been curious about!

re: Gingrich - Fox commentator on Newt - arguing he's make a good leader because he talked women into being with him even though he's obviously a jerk. (and to top it, both the first and second wives had gotten a diagnosis of a possibly terminal disease just before he bugs out their marriages):

I want to be coldly analytical, not moralize, here. I want to tell you what Mr. Gingrich’s behavior could mean for the country, not for the future of his current marriage. So, here’s what one interested in making America stronger can reasonably conclude—psychologically—from Mr. Gingrich’s behavior during his three marriages.

re: Iraq -  I was hoping that you would post the chart for the US out of Iraq. From what I could tell it was December 15, 2011 13:00 Bagdad local time. Neptune is at 28 Aquarius 30. Compare to the other big disaster on the US Moon with the BP Oil Spill where Neptune was at 28 Aquarius 50 according to the chart in your archives. I think this
makes a very convincing case for the true position of the US natal moon...at 28 Aquarius and some minutes between 30 and 50 and could be
used to backtime the true Ascendant of the US chart. I always enjoy reading your columns and wish you the best for the next year...no matter what it brings.

A. Currently, as the troops withdraw, transiting Saturn is exactly square the US Pluto, the ruler of the Scorpio Rising chart. Neptune at 28 AQ is perfectly trioctile (sesquisquare) the U.S. Sun. This action - withdrawing from Iraq - was instigated by Obama, ie, American leadership, which is symbolized by the U.S. Sun, not Moon. The invasion began on Mar 19, 2003 when the progressed US Sun was at 28 AQ, so Neptune passing over this point is a significant ending to this Iraq cycle.

Rick Santorum and Super Tuesday

Data sleuths have yet to track down Rick Santorum’s birth time, so following his surprising sweep of three GOP contests last Tuesday, it’s time to get a working chart. A speculative birth time of 9:53 pm (May 10, 1958; Winchester, VA) puts his morally upright Saturn in Sagittarius right on the Ascendant. With eight children, it’s fitting that his Taurus Sun is in the 5th house.
Jupiter in his 10th house of career is well placed with its sextile to Saturn, trine to his Aquarius Moon, and trine to Pallas (the political asteroid) in Gemini. His Midheaven at 14º Libra conjoins the U.S. Saturn, which aligns his political ambition with the U.S. corporate and political infrastructure. He formed a presidential exploratory committee on April 13, 2011 as transiting Saturn was conjunct his Midheaven.

Santorum’s 10th house conditions describe his changing, evolving political fortunes. Last Tuesday, transiting Uranus formed a quincunx (150º) to his Neptune in the 10th house, which reflects the surprising wins. Also, his progressed Midheaven was (and is) trine his natal Venus, the ruler of his Midheaven, which adds popularity and increases campaign donations. Transiting Jupiter heading toward his Taurus Sun will surely help him build on his surging candidacy.
Heading into Super Tuesday on March 6, Romney enters a double whammy Neptune phase: transiting Neptune is squaring his Ascendant while his progressed Sun is trioctile natal Neptune. If Santorum’s birth time here is accurate, he should do well in these contests: his progressed Moon trines his Midheaven, while his progressed Midheaven trines Venus. Finally, the GOP has zeroed in on a conservative alternative to Romney.
Whitney Houston Slips Away

Troubled pop diva Whitney Houston was found dead by her bodyguard Saturday afternoon, only hours before she was to sing at producer Clive Davis’s soirée. According to TMZ, Houston had been taking Xanax for anxiety and depression, but had been drinking a lot at the same time – a combination that can cause severe sedation. She probably fell asleep while taking a bath and drowned.
Whitney Houston was born with a Sun-Venus conjunction in the royal sign of Leo (August 9, 1963; 8:55 pm; Newark, NJ). She became a star at age 19 following her debut on the Merv Griffin Show on April 29, 1983, one Saturn cycle ago. Her rise to superstar status was enabled by a Fire Grand Trine connecting her bold Moon-Jupiter conjunction in Aries with her beautiful Sun-Venus in Leo and gospel-oriented Sagittarius Midheaven.

Chiron near her Pisces Ascendant contributed to her image as a disturbed singer, especially with its opposition to an obsessive Mercury-Pluto conjunction. Yet Chiron here also made her a healer, which worked its magic through her searing, heartfelt performances*. Perhaps the most impressive mass healing came when she sang the “Star Spangled Banner” on January 27, 1991 at Super Bowl XXV, when the nation was divided over the Iraq War.
At the time, transiting Jupiter was exactly squaring her Part of Fortune at 8º Scorpio (which conjoins the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant), while quincunx her Pisces Ascendant, creating a rainbow bridge between herself and 79 million viewers. Most significantly, her progressed Sun was opposing natal Chiron, so she became identified as the one who soothed and unified the nation, at least for a few minutes. Now, as transiting Chiron opposes her Uranus, she suddenly slips away.
Linsanity Spreading from NY to China

Jeremy Lin seemed to come out of nowhere to lead the hapless New York Knicks to a season high of four consecutive wins. Since his first NBA start on February 4, Lin has been on a scoring rampage using relentless, twisting drives and elegant in-your-face three-pointers. Last Friday against the Lakers he put in his best performance, scoring 38 and earning Kobe Bryant’s respect.
Jeremy Lin was born with his Sun in hard-working Virgo (August 23, 1988; Los Angeles, CA; time unknown), a placement infused with generational and cultural influences by aspects to four outer planets. As the first Asian-American to star in the NBA, Lin already has a devoted fan base in Asian communities in California, New York, China, and Taiwan, while followers to his Twitter account have doubled in the last week.

Naturally, Lin’s Mars is superbly placed in Aries where it’s empowered by a close quincunx to Pluto in Scorpio. Mars is further driven by a square to his Moon in ambitious Capricorn. Last week, transiting Pluto was precisely squaring his progressed Mars when he made his phenomenal debut with the Knicks. It’s no coincidence that transiting Neptune has also been opposing his Sun, a combination that often produces transcendent performances.*
Lin signed on with the Knicks on December 27, just as Jupiter was turning direct while trine his Sun, an unusually rare and favorable alignment. Transiting Uranus and Pluto will be activating his Mars over the next three years, which should bring more sparkling athletic feats. With Lin’s Venus in family-oriented Cancer and trine his North Node, he may expect to cash in on his cultural roots. He already has a deal with Nike, and since last week, many more in the pipeline.
