"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Reader feedback

Obama - I voted for and personally like President Obama but as a left-of-center Democrat I am very disappointed that he continually waits until the last minute to appease his (right-wing) enemies.  And then......he caves in every time to the right wingers.  Does the future hold any change in the President's passivity?

A. - Have a look at Obama's Solar Return. Mars rising tells us that he'll be forced to get much tougher, even though it now seems that's against his nature.

The U.S. Moon - I love to read your column because you do such superb work and the 8º Scorpio chart works beautifully for your predictions. But I've been watching the 28º Aqu point as the US Moon for several years now and I'm convinced this is the degree. A few pieces of data just off the top of my head: Space Shuttle Crash when Uranus transit 28º Aqu. Last big national blackout when Jupiter in Leo opposed at 27º and some degrees Leo. Oil rig disaster when Neptune transit 28º Aqu last time.

A. Yes, 28º AQ does seem like a critical point. Did you know that 28ºAQ12' is exactly trioctile (sesquiquadrate) the U.S. Sun at 13ºCN12'? However, the many predictions made here and action around 25º AQ are too numerous to be coincidental. Here's a couple of recent items in case you missed them:

NewsScope; June 6, 2011 - Pluto’s long-term opposition to the U.S. 8th house Jupiter is also in play now, and can be seen as a challenge to America’s good credit rating. The ferocity of the debate will likely escalate as we near the deadline, since transiting Mars and Pluto oppose each other on August 11, well past the deadline. However, there is some hope that a deal will be reached on August 1 when the Sun squares Jupiter and both align with the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant

NewsScope; June 27, 2011 - Huntsman was born during the New Moon in Aries (March 26, 1960; Palo Alto, CA; time unknown), which makes Mars his Sun sign’s ruling planet. His Mars is located at 25º Aquarius, exactly conjunct the U.S. Moon at 25º Aquarius. Americans like politicians with Mars in this precise zodiacal degree – Ronald Reagan was elected when his progressed Mars was at 25º Aquarius, and both Jimmy Carter and George Bush (senior) have Mars at 25º Aquarius.

Huntsman’s Neptune is found at 8º Scorpio, which happens to perfectly align with the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. Barack Obama, though he was born over a year after Huntsman, has Neptune in the exact same location (with both Neptunes within 0º01’ of conjoining the U.S. Ascendant). The candidate’s Neptune provides the promise of hope for a better future, and increases his sensitivity to what the nation needs.

Obama’s Solar Return

The Grand Cross shaping up in early August will continue to be a significant influence over the coming year for Leos, since it’s in their Solar Returns. Mars feels uncomfortable in Cancer, but is made even more so by the opposition to Pluto, the square to Juno in Libra, and the squares to Ceres and Uranus in Aries.

President Obama celebrated his 50th birthday last Thursday at the White House with a few hundred of his closest friends and political allies. His actual Solar Return took place early the next morning and features Mars right on the Cancer Ascendant. The rest of the Grand Cross pressures that placement, which tells us that Obama’s domestic initiatives (Mars in Cancer) will be operating in a poisonous political environment.

Mars here further describes Obama’s style as being on the defensive, reacting to developing events and crises around him rather than being able to set the nation’s agenda. As weak as Mars appears in this chart, Obama is much helped by the Sun’s close sextile to Saturn. This Sun-Saturn pair forms a fateful “Finger-of-God” configuration with the Midheaven, creating a set-up for an historic decision or incident within the year.

Obama’s 2012 Solar Return looks much better. The Sun is sextile a Ceres-Jupiter conjunction at the Midheaven, which favors his re-election. The Sun is also trine Pallas (the political asteroid) and Uranus in the 8th house, which points to a credible economic platform for the coming four years. The Moon in Pisces near the Descendant suggests that his political opponent may be a Pisces, perhaps Mitt Romney or Rick Perry.

The Super Committee

Over the next two weeks, the four top congressional leaders will appoint three members each to participate in the so-called Super Committee, which is charged with identifying $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction over the next ten years. Although the committee will be intensely divided, failing to come to agreement by the Christmas deadline is not the best option since automatic cuts will kick in.
The Rehabilitation of Tiger Woods

A reader asks, “Will Tiger Woods, being a stalwart Capricorn, recover a portion of his professional capabilities and the favor of the public? Will he make a comeback?” For those who have quit following the disgraced star,* Tiger hasn’t won a tournament in 20 months. After taking three months off to heal from knee injuries, his recent play at the Bridgeport Invitational was merely mediocre.
Astrologically, it looks like we’ll be coming down to the last day again. On December 23, the New Moon in Capricorn opposes the U.S. Venus, which seems like an appropriate new start for fiscal management. The New Moon will trine Jupiter but square Uranus, indicating that an agreement can be reached, but one that many people will be unhappy about. Deja-vu all over again.

The outer planet transits tell us that this is an ongoing long-term problem. Within days of the deadline, Saturn will be squaring the U.S. Pluto, the ruler of the Scorpio Rising national horoscope. This major astro-event is the first of three such hits, and has to do with managing the nation’s corporate and government power. Saturn will make its next two hits in March and September 2012, which will undoubtedly mark high points of the 2012 election season.
In June 2012, when Uranus and Pluto first square each other at 8º of their respective signs, three vital points in the U.S. chart become agitated: the U.S. Uranus at 8º Gemini, the U.S. Ceres at 8º Pisces, and the U.S. Ascendant at 8º Scorpio. The build-up to this date is already well under way, since Ceres in Pisces (supported by a generous trine to the U.S. Jupiter) can readily be identified with entitlement programs*. Social security, Medicare and Medicaid, and other guaranteed benefits to the American people will be targeted.
* The U.S. Ceres-Uranus square is fleshed out in an article to be published in Dell Horoscope’s 2012 Yearbook. Click here for an excerpt
Tiger Woods was born with his ambitious Capricorn Sun square Pluto (December 30, 1975; 10:50 pm; Long Beach, CA), a challenging combination that has endowed him with intense charisma and extraordinary competence, but has undermined his life’s structure through character flaws. The Sun-Pluto is capable of highly focused will power, but when his progressed Venus entered into this square, he became distracted by sexual opportunities.

Tiger’s world began unraveling when Saturn entered Libra in 2009 and his prolific infidelities began surfacing. Saturn’s repeated passage over his Sun-Pluto square brought emotional as well as physical trauma. The most recent and final episode was three months ago, when he had surgery just as transiting Saturn was turning direct on his Pluto. His physical injuries could well undermine his future performance.

for the breaking story – well before the mainstream media understood what was happening:
And now, transiting Pluto is heading into the life-changing conjunction with his Sun. Considering this extremely challenging transit alone, an astrologer might say that his professional career is irreversibly heading downhill. However, his progressed planets tell a different story. Most importantly, his progressed Sun is nearing a trine to his Mars, which will become effective in one year. This will allow him to use the Pluto transit to regain his confidence, rebuild his strength, and make the necessary adjustments to his swing.
