"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

Reader feedback

re: Russia - I was heartened to read your commentary on "Russia's Arab Spring," since just this past weekend I was reviewing Vladimir Putin's horoscope for signs of decay; only to hear the latest in the news today (Mon.) that the nickel magnate Michail Prokhorov was throwing his hat in the ring to oppose Putin! Could you, would you, take a look at what the outcome here may be? Just from Putin's horoscope, with his Saturn return and Saturn on the ascendant, by the March 4th, upcoming presidential elections, in my humble opinion, because he's not apt to make the necessary adjustments that Saturn requires, methinks Putin is...GOING DOWN. But that may also be because of wishful thinking. Here in Latvia and I'm sure across Europe, in all of EU -- thanks for those write-ups, little gems, too -- we're being cautiously optimistic.

re: Elizabeth Warren - She seems to be a wonderful candidate.  I wish we had at least one Senator like Elizabeth Warren in all 50 states...But she shares a birthdate with the enormously successful Meryl Streep.  Although they operate in different fields, both are their generation's top female role models.

re: Albert Pujols - Thank you. You are still in the zone.

re: Higgs-Boson - I so enjoy your site, and wanted to write to send you this link about the possible-imminent discovery of the God particle in Geneva--given all the 2012 stuff going on (I really like your pages on this...), I thought it would be timely for you... la-sci-higgs-boson
Please keep doing 3 analyses per week, if you're able! They're always great...

re: Spanish athletes - Lots of talks about spanish athletes doping in the news these days. Any astrological prospective about it? Especially about tennis and Nadal and David Ferrer specifically. Also no one can't figure out the out of the blue improvement of Djokovic, the new #1. Any astrological explenation?

re: Romney - Hard to believe you are so focused on uber Pisces Romney when he is such a nobody, and would not have done much at all without his daddy's money and connections. Too bad you didn't even attempt a good look at Ron Paul, a totally self made Leo who has progressed Sun exactly conjunct his natal Mars Jupiter.

re: Gary Johnson - I really enjoy your NewsScopes. I was looking into Gary Johnson, former governor of New Mexico, as a possible 3rd party candidate and I see he has Venus at 25 degrees Aquarius trine a Pluto/SNeptune conjunction in Libra. Any thoughts on him emerging?

Callista Gingrich, the Significant Other

A reader suggests that there’s more to Newt Gingrich’s rise than can be found in his horoscope, and wants to know what influence his current wife has had on his career. “It may not be so much that Newt has changed, but that Callista has harnessed his energy in some way.”
Callista Gingrich was born with a politically ambitious Sun-Pallas-Saturn conjunction in faith-oriented Pisces (March 4, 1966; Whitehall, WI; time unknown), a placement that has found expression in her life-long commitment to politics and Catholicism. While the Pallas-Saturn influence over her Sun urges her to work within social norms, her Sun also opposes the radical Uranus-Pluto conjunction and squares Jupiter in Gemini. She closely identifies with Saturn as the protector of the faith.

Callista has a Mars-Juno conjunction in Pisces, an indication that her Inner Warrior best expresses itself with a partner. Her several Pisces planets and asteroids happen to land in Newt’s 12th house, and most significantly, her Mars there is closely square Newt’s Gemini Sun. These placements suggest someone who pushes Newt hard from behind the scenes. All her planets in Newt’s 12th house also remind us that the two carried on an adulterous affair from 1993 through 1999.
Her Sun-Saturn-Uranus-Pluto configuration squares Newt’s Saturn, and this is an area where she’s had enormous influence. The two have worked together to enhance his material wealth, since his Saturn is in the 2nd house of money. Saturn also rules Newt’s 9th house of religion, and he converted to her religion, Catholicism, in 2009. Most importantly, Saturn governs Newt’s instinctive ambition, and she is evidently the driving force behind his will to succeed.

Vanessa Bryant Files for Divorce

For couples on the edge, December can be unbearable. Last week, Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce from her superstar husband Kobe Bryant. They both requested custody of their two children, and issued a joint statement asking “that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season, the public respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
Vanessa Bryant was born with a Sun-Chiron conjunction in traditional Taurus (May 14, 1982; Huntington Beach, CA; time unknown). She naturally considers marriage to be the bedrock of society as well as her own life, since her Sun trines Juno in conventional Capricorn. Her Moon-Saturn conjunction in Libra likewise supports a reliable, long-term relationship. So what went wrong?

The love planets Venus and Mars oppose each other in this chart, and are directly connected to Vanessa’s Taurus Sun by challenging aspects. Much of her identity is wrapped up in her sexual appeal (Sun octile Venus) and her ability to physically express that in artistic ways (Sun trioctile Mars in Libra). She first met Kobe when she was a 17-year-old dancer for a music video shoot.
A significant problem with challenging Venus-Mars aspects is finding sexual harmony. In Vanessa’s case, deception in intimacy can also be problematic, since her Venus-Mars squares Neptune. Front page stories about Kobe’s adultery as well as his accusations against Karl Malone for flirting with his wife reflect the uneasy tension in Vanessa’s planetary alignments. Vanessa filed for divorce as transiting Uranus turned direct while exactly aligned with her natal Venus-Mars.
Hedy Lamarr,
Beautiful and Intelligent

Born in Vienna and the child of an affluent Jewish banker, Hedy Lamarr was determined to help defeat the Nazis during World War II. A new book, Hedy’s Folly,* recounts her remarkable journey from trophy wife of an Austrian munitions manufacturer to her exalted Hollywood career. In 1942, she invented a device that was the forerunner of today’s smart bombs and a key component in wireless communications.
Hedy Lamarr was born with her Scorpio Sun in the 5th house of entertainment (November 9, 1914; 7:30 pm; Vienna, Austria) where it trines her Pisces Midheaven. Her professional film career was tremendously enhanced by her 2nd house Moon-Neptune conjunction in royal Leo. This emotionally and visually sensitive influence eventually brought her fame and fortune as “the most beautiful woman in the world.”

Unlike many starlets of the time, Hedy Lamarr had an inventive mind, along with a unique and clear understanding of German weaponry. Her Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio, suggesting a penetrating intellect that thinks outside the box. Her Mercury is given an inventive twist by the squares to Jupiter and Uranus in Aquarius. She and composer George Antheil were granted a U.S. patent on August 11, 1942 for their frequency hopping technology that would make torpedoes impossible to detect.
At the time, transiting Jupiter brought her this honor since it had just entered her 1st house and was forming a favorable trine to her Sun and Midheaven. Also, her progressed Mercury had conjoined her natal Mars in Scorpio, describing her mental focus on weaponry. However, Saturn was going through her 12th house, and the authorities gave her no recognition. As described in Hedy’s Folly, the Pentagon had an inherent bias against beautiful and intelligent woman, and her device was ignored until 1962.
