Al Franken Joins the Senate

Last week former Saturday Night Live comedian Al Franken was sworn in as the junior senator from Minnesota following the Minnesota Supreme Court's certification of his election by a mere 324 votes. Since he began his campaign in early 2007, Franken has dramatically changed his public persona, moving from the biting satirist of the entertainment business to a more serious, issues-oriented policy wonk.

Franken was born with a Sun-Mars conjunction in Gemini (May 21, 1951; 6:15 pm; New York, NY), a highly self-assertive combination that readily expresses itself through words. The Sun-Mars is supported by a constructive trine to Saturn, allowing him to build a successful career in show business. However, they are also quincunx Chiron, which brings out the aggressive hothead as he restlessly takes on challenges that get him into trouble.

Hummingbird and Solar God Crop Circles

On July 2 a spectacular new crop circle depicting a 300-foot-long hummingbird appeared in a barley field in Wiltshire, England. Crop circle enthusiasts are trying to decode the message, but many have noted the remarkable similarity this design has to the huge hummingbird geoglyph found near Nazca, Peru that was made over 2000 years ago.

In pre-Columbian civilizations, the hummingbird was considered sacred. According to Manuel Gamboa*, the Aztecs fashioned one of their few constellations after the hummingbird, with Canopus being the alpha star of this group. Canopus is the second brightest star in the night sky (after Sirius) and is located at 14º Cancer. Is it just a coincidence that the Hummingbird crop circle appeared as the Lunar Eclipse aligned with Canopus?

Taurus (May 16, 1986; Oak Ridge, TN; time unknown), and her Moon in regal Leo, a combination known for its style, determination, pride and self-confidence. The Sun trines Mars in ambitious Capricorn, which brings her plenty of courage and physical strength, and would make her an ideal candidate to replace Angelina in the Lara Croft franchise.

Then on July 5, another huge, incredibly intricate and beautiful crop circle appeared that also evoked the pre-Columbian Mayan and Aztec cultures. This one – dubbed the Solar God – looks like Quetzalcoatl, the plumed serpent, who like Jesus, will return to save humanity. One observer sees in this crop circle an eclipse within an eclipse, which graphically corresponds to the July 21st Solar Eclipse and the two lunar eclipses that surround it.

The Hummingbird crop circle includes

13 small dots, which evoke the Mayan calendar and its use of cycles based on the number 13. The Solar God crop circle of July 5 also shows the Mayan counting system with its series of bars and dots dispersed through the headdress. The end of the Mayan long count is scheduled for 2012. Hummingbird is a messenger who brings hope and advises patience over the long journey, and includes the promise of a rebirth.
