Another connection is his natal Uranus, which opposes the U.S. Moon, located at 25º28' Aquarius. Here is where the excitement, the charisma, and the sudden skyrocketing to fame can be seen. As discussed in this column during the last presidential campaign, candidates must have extremely tight connections to the U.S. Moon to ensure their popular approval and to get elected.

Obama's progressed Venus, the planet directly associated with popularity, is near his natal Uranus, a dynamic combination that has electrified his national following. In early 2008, at the height of the Democratic primaries.
Obama's Vision of Change and Hope

NewsScope, January 8, 2008. Barack Obama's stunning victory in Iowa was celebrated across the nation as a genuine embrace of change and hope, the two keywords in Obama's campaign. The unexpected turnout of young people and independents will likely repeat in New Hampshire and South Carolina, giving him tremendous momentum as we head into Super Tuesday. With the Republicans in disarray, Obama is currently the favorite to become America's next president.

The only major aspect to Obama's Leo Sun (August 4, 1961; 7:24 pm; Honolulu, HI) is the square to Neptune, which infuses his leadership qualities with vision, hope, and the quest for something better. Since his Neptune is located at 8º Scorpio—exactly conjunct the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant—he becomes the perfect screen for Americans to project their highest ideals and expectations.

Obama's Uranus at 25º Leo is exactly opposite the U.S. Moon (orb 0º13'), an electrifying connection that promises radical change. Under ordinary circumstances, this opposition would be too radical, but the mood sweeping the

Obama's Momentum

NewsScope; February 18, 2008. Many readers have asked if I still believe that Hillary will get the nomination. Over a year ago, I wrote that Hillary and Obama would be the top contenders due to their connections to the U.S. Moon, and that ultimately Hillary would win. In light of Obama's recent string of primary victories and the way the primary schedule was dramatically shifted forward, it's time to re-visit his chart and find out why he's doing so well.

Barack Obama was born (August 4, 1961; 7:24 pm; Honolulu, HI) with Uranus at 25º18' Leo, which is only 0º10' from an opposition to the U.S. Moon. This connection implies the radical change (Uranus) that he promises the American people (Moon). Uranus is located in his seventh house of the general public, and made prominent by the conjunction with the fateful North Node.
Obama's progressed (P2) chart tells the tale. The key to his current success can be found in his P2 Jupiter, which is at 27º20' Capricorn. In addition to being precisely quincunx his North Node (at 27º18' Leo), it's also closely conjunct the U.S. Pluto, the ruler of the Scorpio Rising U.S. horoscope. P2 Jupiter to the U.S. Pluto brings the support of the most powerful and influential people in the nation.

This rare and spectacular alignment is in place for many years, since his progressed Jupiter is stationary. However, his progressed Sun at 27º Virgo is now activating this complex by making a perfect trine to his progressed Jupiter. This extremely favorable celestial set-up has been in effect during the front-loaded primaries, and continues to be a powerful influence. So his momentum should continue through then, right through the all-important Texas and Ohio primaries on March 4.
Obama Assumes the Nomination

NewsScope for May 12, 2008. From the Feedback Dept: "It's clear now that Obama has this wrapped up, unless something totally awful comes out about him. I wonder how the transits you mention will manifest themselves." Yes, as the punditocracy declared last week, "This nomination fight is over!" Hillary is mathematically nearly eliminated, and leaks from her campaign indicate that she'll throw in the towel sometime before June 15.

Transiting Jupiter trine Barack Obama's Mars, the ruler of his Midheaven, brought this presumed success. But Jupiter turned
Barack Obama, A Star to Watch

NewsScope, December 4, 2006. The 2008 presidential campaign is already heating up, and on the Democrats' side, perhaps 20 candidates will be declaring over the next few months. According to the most recent polls, the surprise #2 favorite (behind Hillary Clinton) is Barack Obama, the junior senator from Illinois. Since his keynote address at the 2004

Political Candidates and the U.S. Moon
Democratic National Convention, Obama has soared in popularity and national recognition.

Barack Obama's horoscope (August 4, 1961; Honolulu; time unknown) synchronizes neatly with the U.S. national horoscope. Among the many close contacts is his Neptune at 8º36' Scorpio, which is exactly, to-the-minute, conjunct the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. This link describes the vision that he espouses for Americans of all ethnic backgrounds, as he expresses in his recently published book The Audacity of Hope.
Obama's progressed chart looks extremely favorable (progressed Jupiter conjunct the U.S. Pluto, as his progressed Sun trines the U.S. Pluto) for advancing his ambitions. Here is a rising star to watch.
from the past. Hillary's Uranus at 25º Gemini merely trines the U.S. Moon, which also promises change, but without upsetting the status quo.

Obama's progressed Moon is conjunct Jupiter on January 20, so he should continue to do well throughout January. Then matters shift, as Mars turns direct and Mercury turns retrograde at the end of the month, in preparation for Super Tuesday on February 5. At the same time, transiting Saturn will be conjunct his Pluto, the ruler of his chart. Practical Saturn brings unreasonable hope back to earth, testing Obama's statecraft, his ability to work the levers of government.
nation indicates people are looking for a dramatic clearing

retrograde on May 9, and this week begins to lose its protective influence. Transiting Uranus will be exactly opposite his natal Mars on June 2 and July 21, and so will be the major influence from now until the end of July.

Meanwhile, transiting Uranus is also conjunct Hillary's Pisces Moon, as she undergoes an emotional crisis about when/if to withdraw from the race. When transiting Chiron turns retrograde in two weeks, it aligns with her Mercury-Saturn square, another indication of pain and suffering over her apparent defeat. As it becomes clear that she's bowing out, the attacks on Obama from other quarters will certainly intensify.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright (September 22, 1941; Philadelphia, PA; time unknown) has a feisty Mercury-Mars opposition in his chart. This polarity is under activation now, as is his progressed Pallas (the political asteroid), making him and his political views an ongoing factor. More worrisome are the assassination threats from the KKK and other racist elements, which fit the dynamic energy of transiting Uranus opposite Obama's Mars.
