Joe Biden as Obama's Veep
NewsScope; August 25, 2008. One major drawback in Obama's horoscope is that he has no planets in the tenth house, which goes against the historical record of elected presidents. A national leader needs tenth house planets to govern, to give the impression that he's in charge. Obama's planetary emphasis is in the seventh house, where he leads through the medium of the people he has around him.
Joe Biden (November 20, 1942; 8:30 am; Scranton, PA) fills this leadership gap since his Scorpio Sun and Venus sit right on Obama's Scorpio Midheaven. Technically, Biden's Scorpio stellium is actually in Obama's ninth house of foreign affairs, so this is where Biden's expertise will play out. Biden's Mars in Scorpio closely squares Obama's Sun, so that we may expect him to be very forceful in his advice.
Biden's seventh house of partners is dominated by Uranus on the Descendant. On December 18, 1972 Biden's wife was killed in a car accident. At the time, his progressed Mars was right on his Sagittarius Ascendant and opposing natal Uranus. Since Biden's Uranus is conjunct Obama's Moon, this is an important point to watch for any sudden changes in their relationship.
Biden's progressed Mars is now at 28º Sagittarius, and is being activated over the next two months by transiting Pluto. This assures us that he will energetically take up the role of attack dog in the presidential campaign. The Saturn-Uranus opposition on election day is exactly aligned with Biden's Midheaven, indicating a dramatic stimulus to his career. Factor in his progressed Moon and Midheaven positions, and he looks favored to move to the world's center stage.
Obama's Team of Rivals
NewsScope for June 23, 2008. With Newsweek's latest poll putting Obama ahead of McCain by 51% to 36%, and the astrological factors looking similarly favorable for the Illinois senator, it's not too early to speculate about an Obama presidency. Obama likes to compare himself to Abraham Lincoln, as when he announced his candidacy, "The life of a tall, gangly, self-made Springfield lawyer tells us that a different future is possible."
Astrologically, Lincoln's horoscope (February 12, 1809; 6:54 am; Hodgenville, KY) has some strong resemblances to Obama's, including Aquarius Rising and a prominent outer planet conjunct the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. For Lincoln, it's Uranus, the ruler of his chart, at 9º Scorpio, while Obama has Neptune at 8º Scorpio. Both are populists, shown by Lincoln's Sun conjunct the U.S. Moon, and Obama's Uranus opposite the U.S. Moon. .
Obama's Prospects
NewsScope; June 16, 2008. The horoscope previously used for Obama (set for 1:06 pm) resonates strongly with what we now know is the correct time (7:24 pm). What was formerly a 19º Aquarius-Leo vertical axis is now an 18º Aquarius-Leo horizontal axis. When he announced his candidacy on February 10, 2007, transiting Saturn and Neptune opposed each other along this degree zone. Likewise, the Solar Eclipse that took place on February 9, 2008 right after Super Tuesday illuminated these key degrees.
A major difference between these two charts is his twelfth house, which now looks exceptionally charmed.
With Saturn dignified in its own sign and lucky Jupiter tenanting his twelfth house, we may now view this house as full of secret benefactors. He refers to the widespread support he has among Fortune 500 CEOs. His candidacy began precisely as his progressed Moon entered the twelfth house.
Obama's progressed Moon will be conjunct his Ascendant on December 17, 2008. This will mean that his entire election campaign was conducted while his progressed Moon was traveling through his twelfth house. His political enemies searched in vain for skeletons, but with Jupiter and a dignified Saturn protecting him, they found nothing. What Obama is doing in this campaign is channeling some collective urge for unity.
On November 4 (election day) transiting
Obama in Colorado
NewsScope for August 18, 2008. In 1859, gold was discovered near Idaho Springs, which resides in the current state of Colorado. The gold rush was on as the so-called "fifty-niners" established camps in Boulder, Colorado City, Gold Hill, and Pueblo. The Colorado Territory was organized around these camps to govern the chaotic prospecting claims, and then on August 1, 1876 Colorado entered the union as the 38th state.
Colorado's Sun is in Leo (August 1, 1876; noon, Denver), the sign traditionally associated with gold. The Leo Sun is given an extra dose of pride and energy by its conjunction with Mars, a robust pairing that accounts for Colorado's very active and athletic population with the lowest obesity rate in the nation. The prominent Mars also explains Colorado's high profile in U.S. military operations and planning.
Colorado's Sun squares Neptune, which makes Colorado denizens especially hopeful and imaginative. Colorado's Sun-Neptune square is the astrological signature for abundant oil and gas reserves, including oil shale deposits estimated at one trillion barrels – about the same as the entire world's proven oil reserves. Colorado's Leo Sun squaring Neptune also happens to be the exact celestial pattern shared by Barack Obama.
Obama was born one Uranus cycle after Colorado, and shares Colorado's self-confidence, hope for the future, and creative intelligence. As the DNC opens on August 25, Colorado's Mars will have progressed to 8º Scorpio, which corresponds to the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, as well as Obama's Neptune. The Moon moves into Leo on August 28, when Obama is scheduled to accept his party's nomination before 75,000 people, and perhaps a billion viewers worldwide.
Michelle Obama, Senior Adviser
NewsScope; April 21, 2008. Michelle Obama was born with her Capricorn Sun conjunct Mars (January 17, 1964; Chicago, IL; time unknown), a feisty combination that gives an edgy first impression, or as some say, an outgoing and aggressively friendly personality. With her Mars in egalitarian, humanitarian Aquarius, Michelle's fight is for equal rights, as much for women as blacks.
Comparing Michelle's and Barack's charts reveals a dynamic mix of supportive and challenging connec-tions. Natally, Michelle has a wonderful Ceres-Jupiter trine in fire signs, giving her a pioneering social vision. Barack's Sun in Leo
completes a Grand Trine with Michelle's Ceres-Jupiter, so that together, they form a creative, energetic, and inspirational team. His Jupiter in Aquarius conjoins her Sun-Mars, adding to their mutually supportive roles.
Michelle's Saturn is exactly quincunx Barack's Mars, and this combination can lead to antagonism and ultimatums. A well-known example is when she refused to join his presidential campaign unless he quit smoking. Her Pallas, the political
strategy asteroid, is near his Midheaven and exactly sextile his Mars. With both being activated by transiting Uranus over the next few months, we can expect that she will be playing an increasingly larger role as his senior adviser.
Saturn and Uranus will be forming an exact opposition, pitting elements of the status quo (Saturn) against the forces for dramatic change (Uranus). With Aquarius Rising and transiting Uranus in his first house, Obama clearly personifies the Uranian element. Obama's progressed Sun will be very favorably sextile his Midheaven in 2009, which represents a natural assumption of power.
Among the major differences between their charts is that Obama has no planets near the Midheaven (Lincoln has a Saturn-Neptune conjunction there), and Obama has none of the traditional planets in the first house (Lincoln has his Sun, plus several more). Obama's chart tilts toward the seventh house, so much of an Obama administration depends on who he picks for his cabinet and Vice President.
Obama speaks fondly of Doris Kearns Goodman's book on Lincoln Team of Rivals, which describes how Lincoln assembled his political rivals to be in his cabinet. Obama's seventh house contains three "malefics": Mars, Uranus and Pluto, which is a celestial set-up for attracting strong-willed adversaries and/or partners. Watch for some key designations around July 8-10 when transiting Mars and Saturn are conjunct near his Pluto
