Apple Rising

NewsScope; October 18, 2010. In 2003 you could buy 100 shares of Apple's stock for $600. Last week, when Apple's stock price closed at an all-time high, those same 100 shares would be worth $31,400. Apple is now the second largest corporation in America (after Exxon), having re-invented itself a few times and hitting the jackpot most recently with its revolutionary products, the iPad and the iPhone.
Apple was incorporated on January 3, 1977 (Sacramento, CA; noon) when the Sun was in the business-oriented sign of Capricorn and squaring Pluto. The Sun-Pluto square reflects the periodic metamorphosis in Apple's leadership, its near-death and re-birth experiences, as well as the innovative product line that would transform the way people use computers.
It's no coincidence that Eris, the recently discovered outer planet associated with the "apple of discord" is at 13º Aries, where it forms a very tight square with the Capricorn Sun (orb 0º13'). Apple gets its name and reputation from the Eris vibe, since the company executives promoted a more laid-back corporate culture than its staid rivals like IBM. Also, Apple has refused to adopt industry standards for hardware, preferring to create its own.

The noon birth time works well for this chart. When Steve Jobs returned to Apple after a long absence, he convinced the board to fire the CEO on July 4, 1997. At the time, transiting Saturn was right on the Aries Ascendant and squaring Mercury in the tenth house of management. Most recently, transiting Pluto has been conjunct Mars, Apple's ruling planet. This has empowered Apple with a soaring stock price and by becoming Fortune magazine's most admired company in the world for the last three years running.

Steve Jobs' New Moon
Also, Jobs is in a closure phase as described by his progressed New Moon. This progressed New Moon marks the ending of a life cycle and the beginning of a new one. It takes place on July 24, 2011 at 1º33' Taurus where it closely squares his natal Chiron. This closure phase is about a serious health crisis, requiring plenty of rest and privacy to regenerate his forces.

Transiting Chiron and Neptune are entering Pisces and will be conjoining his Pisces Sun over the next few years, which reiterates the theme of retreat and fading away. At the same time, transiting Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto will be aligning with his Aries Moon, pushing him to be active. He needs to resist the temptation of a fully activated Aries Moon to recover.
NewsScope; January 24, 2011. A reader noted that Steve Jobs, who just recently announced another medical leave of absence, has tremendous talent in manifesting popular new technologies. "Do you expect his faith, vision, and positive expectations to carry over into manifesting positive health?" Pundits everywhere are also asking, what ails Jobs and how serious is it?
Steve Jobs was born with his Pisces Sun in the sixth house of health (February 24, 1955; 7:15 pm; San Francisco, CA). His Sun here squares Mars in pioneering Aries, widely opposes Pluto, and also squares Neptune in Libra. The Sun's vitality is therefore under pressure by its stressful participation in this Grand Cross. Transiting Neptune and Chiron in his 6th house have been activating this Grand Cross, and will continue to do so over the next few years.
The iPad's Debut

NewsScope; April 5, 2010. Is the iPad a laptop killer or just another e-book? Apple rolled out the iPad last Saturday at precisely 9:00 am up and down the Atlantic coast. At the flagship Apple Store in Manhattan, hundreds of people were lined up waiting for the doors to open. The product launch has had people buzzing for months, but will it do any better than Apple's dismal Newton PDA?

The iPad horoscope (April 3, 2010; 9:00 am; New York, NY) features the Sun in pioneering Aries, which is a good start. Gemini Rising shows that the device's main purpose is as a communication and information system. With Mars in stylish Leo sextile the Ascendant, the iPad presents a strong and clear interface, which is one of its main selling points.
The ruler of this chart is Mercury at 1º Taurus, and is located in the twelfth house. This Mercury happens to be aligned with Steve Jobs' Mars-Neptune, highlighting him as the behind-the-scenes promoter of the iPad as a product of his energy and vision. A potential problem can be seen in Mercury's square to Mars, which may manifest as legal fights or combating negative product reviews.

However, with Mercury's conjunction to Venus and trine to Ceres and Pluto – all in earth signs – the iPad should be a big money maker. The Part of Fortune, the Midheaven, and Neptune (the most elevated planet) are in the social-networking sign of Aquarius and help to define the iPad's purpose. Neptune gains importance by its sextile to Mercury and square to the Ascendant. Neptune adds the priceless quality of being a glossy fashion statement.
Steve Jobs' Health Issues

NewsScope; January 9, 2009. Apple CEO Steve Jobs emailed his people last week, telling them that he's taking some time off to resolve his health issues. On January 5, he revealed that his recent weight loss was due to a hormone imbalance, which confirmed rumors about his health issues. The latest rumors are that he's considering a liver transplant due to complications from his pancreatic cancer five years ago.

Steve Jobs was born with Virgo Rising (February 24, 1955; 7:15 pm; San Francisco, CA), which tells us that Mercury is the ruler of his chart. And since he has Gemini at his Midheaven, it's also the ruler of his tenth house of business. Mercury is placed in innovative, futuristic Aquarius and in the fifth house of entertainment and creativity. Small wonder that he's had twin careers as CEO of Pixar and Apple.

Having Virgo and the Sun in the sixth house also points to health concerns, especially over the last year as his Ascendant has been under the influence of the transiting Saturn-Uranus opposition. Jobs has also recently experienced a double Sun-Mars progression (P2 Mars square Sun; P2 Sun conjunct Mars). This is a clear indication that he's been working too hard, and may also indicate severe inflammation.

Mysterious, uncertain, deceptive Neptune has also been playing a significant role in this case. Transiting Neptune has been forming a quincunx to his Ascendant for the past year, fueling rumors about his health condition as it prepares to enter his sixth house. Neptune's influence will be strongest in March when it opposes his Pluto, a combination that may signal the need for radical surgery.

From Star Trek to the iPhone:
The Communicator Revolution

NewsScope; July 2, 2007. Ever since Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that the iPhone was coming, techies have been anxiously awaiting the launch date for the new product, which finally arrived last Friday. The frenzied interest in the iPhone signals that a major new product has hit the market, one that takes a quantum leap ahead of the cell phone by wirelessly connecting to the home computer and internet.
The horoscope for the iPhone can be set for Jobs' announcement on January 9, 2007 (at 9:40 am; San Francisco). Uranus Rising in the fantasy sign of Pisces sets the tone for the excitement around the iPhone. Jupiter near the Midheaven shows how much promise the concept has, and that its popularity and success are fated. Jupiter and Uranus square each other, a celestial signature for innovation, excitement, and fame.

The iPhone has important historical roots, which can be traced back to the debut of Star Trek on September 8, 1966 (8:30 pm; New York, NY). The first episode featured a device known as the "communicator", which Martin Cooper, the inventor of the modern cell phone, credits for being his inspiration. The Star Trek chart features the Sun in Virgo conjunct the epochal, revolutionary Uranus-Pluto conjunction.

The Star Trek Moon is at 27º in the communications sign of Gemini. The iPhone announcement and launch date both show transiting Pluto at 27º Sagittarius, pointing to the long process of product development that evolved from the original Star Trek episode. Also, transiting Uranus is exactly opposite the Star Trek Uranus-Pluto conjunction, reflecting the quantum technological growth from the 1966 seed-idea. The 23rd century has arrived.
